On Skyscanner the best (cheapest) option is via LHR and transferring to LGW with a 3hr window. Whilst on paper this looks ok, I know there are buses and I'd probably book a private taxi, I can't imagine this looking too good on the return leg when we're tired?

We've travelled indirect a few times usually via a US hub and a single airport (PHL and ATL), and had delays but worked out ok in the end.

The price makes it attractive, as being Easter school hols it's £418 each (£1670 for 2a,2c). Compared to double that for the next nearest indirect flights.
I really wouldn't be happy with a 3 hour window from Heathrow to Gatwick - you don't really explain if this 3 hour window is the same in both directions. What flights are Skyscanner offering and can they confirm that the flight price actually exisists?

Thats too tight for me...

Just to point out another perspective view point how i look at it on a good day ...

Timeline - (stopwatch)

Land at LHR - 00hr:00mins.

Offload aircraft and border control. > 00:40mins

Wait for luggage - 20 mins > 01:00 hr

Walk to and find taxi - 10 mins > 01hr:10mins

LHR to Gatwick > 1hour/37 miles. - 02hr:10 mins

Gatwick Security and check in luggage, 20 mins > 02hr:30 mins

Head to gate, 10 mins > 02:hr:40 mins

Flight doors close 15 mins before departure -

Based on the above time estimates, you have only 5 mins contingency.

Ah yes, so you are, not long to go!

Your flights will absolutely fine I’m sure and like you say at those prices during school hols, very hard to turn down. I’m willing to put up with a bit of faff.

We’ve booked the National Express to take us from Heathrow to Gatwick, at £43 for the 4 of us, it was yet another irresistible bargain!

We’ve booked the 9.45am coach from T5. That should give us plenty of time from when the flight lands at 8:10. If we get through arrivals baggage reclaim quicker, we might jump on an earlier coach (you’re allowed to make a change for £5pp)or we might just go and get breakfast.

BA transfers gets good reviews. Other company I nearly went with was twelvetransfers. They have very good reviews on truspilot and tripadvisor, but the NE was just cheaper.

We are doing this with the 3 hour window as we got flights for £305 each so took the risk. I won't lie I'm anxious about it wish we'd gone for the later flight but hindsight and all.. We have looked this up on numerous dibb threads and it seems all who've done it have made it (I haven't read anyone who hasn't -yet!) We have booked twelve transfers so no hanging around waiting for National Express and also booked fast track security. Now it's just a fingers crossed for the M25!

We did this 2 years ago, booked a private transfer who was excellent with BA transfers. We left a 5 hour layover just incase and predictably all was smooth and we ended up sat exhausted in Heathrow for hours. Not an enjoyable experience but probably just worth the money saved. This year we are going to drive up from Heathrow to Leeds rather than try and get a flight back up north
