It did look like this before (it was tidier but we gave up when we knew it would be dug out)
We hate gardening, it is always a mess. I would love to get fully paved with maybe just a couple of flower beds like you have. I would try and grow herbs, although thus far the only thing I have ever managed to keep alive is my cactus.

Would the patio be in the shade all of the day if it’s north facing? It’s a lot of money to spend if it’s not practical - unless you don’t like sitting in the sun?

Haha! I have lots of cacti in the house as I cannot keep anything alive in doors (part from the kids, dh and the pets) I’m ok with plants in the garden though strangely!

We get some sun late in the afternoon/early evening in the summer, especially along the back of the house. We are not great sun worshippers as dh and dd are red heads 🤣!

If we went with option 1 the smaller triangle of patio in the opposite corner will have a bench which will get the sun from late morning right through?

I went for 2 in the poll but based on what you’ve said would change to number 1 just for the flexibility. I think I’d make the small triangle slightly bigger and the big triangle slightly smaller - then if you have a family bbq etc people have the choice of sun or shade 😊
