Can ESTA's be unapproved?

Hi. Am a bit confused 🤔. Once an ESTA has been approved can it be unapproved before the two year expiry date? My family's ESTA's were approved in August 2018 and we fly in May 2019 - should I be checking the ESTA's are still approved?

Apparently they can change in theory e.g. say someone on the no-fly list has the same name etc.
I don't generally re-check, but apparently it's good practice just in case.

Yes, there have been reports of previously approved ESTAs becoming declined prior to the 2 year expiry date.
Some in the past suffered a glitch with incorrect US departure dates being recorded by their airline/airport; hence they were classed as overstayers & their ESTAs revoked.

I heard a story of someone having their approval revoked (although you never know how true these “stories” are).
But it did make me paranoid enough to recheck that ours were all still approved and valid for our upcoming trip!

Yeah I just checked mine - all still valid, phew.

On a related note, each time I depart the US, I check my travel history on the I94 website a couple of days later to make sure my departure has been recorded correctly.
