Good to see Nissan are putting the newer units in the latests cars, not like in the uk in the Qashqai and pathfinder!

Great - thanks for this

We've had the Rogue the last 2 years, but last August it didn't have this functionality, so good to hear the new models have it

Thanks guys for everyone's feedback on this thread.

So I'm assuming that you have to have your phone live on some sort of data roaming to receive stuff assuming your car isn't picking up wifi?

We both take mobiles and leave them on flight mode all the time and communicate with family and friends via WhatsApp all the time.

Using for example Google Maps app on your phone, you can use Google maps app as a sat nav tool, which fully integrates with the screen in the car so if you get a car with no factory sat nav, but supports Android Auto its no problem. (also, a lot of manafactures are getting rid of inbuilt satnav due to the licence costs of the maps and the future proof of updates is a manual process.

In regards to data - here you have 2 options, A) run google maps purely on streaming, (ie, using phone data) to load the maps and live travel news. (it does not use much data though can be costly overseas depending on mobile plan.)
Option B) download "offline" maps via Google maps, this downloads a offline copy of the map to your phones memory, (so you could select say a sq area which covers half of Florida, and then download further maps too) so when you drive, your phone reads the offline map so no data is required. However, you dont get live travel updates and rerouteing. (not the end of the world.)

That is my total knowledge of the screen functions.

Being serious it must be very handy for those who use/rely on these apps. Cars are becoming so technical now albeit I wouldn't fancy the repair bills if some of this technology fails.
I would not like to own a modern car outside of warranty anymore, however i have various software to connect to cars to read fault codes etc, ie, VAGCOM for VW Group, INPA for BMW etc..

Going back to the OP's question, as a rule of thumb, i look for a big screen in the car and then plug my phone straight in to test, though over time i now know my way around most of the cars infotainment systems so know where to look if the car is equip'ed with AA.

The Rogue was a replacement for the basic Altima which had an engine light after the first week of hire. But the Rogue was a SL 4wd fully loaded with Ohio plates , android auto was buried deeper in the ICE menu

Thanks for that Rick. We don't really use satnav over there unless we're having a tour around the back lanes to somewhere new. Joan has "Here we go" on her iPhone and we use that through the phone speaker. We use it off-line so we know that we don't get live traffic updates but it serves us well for maybe one use per holiday.

Might have a play with it if I find we have it next time.

Mick

I'm losing out now to the "Visitor's Toll Pass Scheme" about which, along with Ubers, DDP and Fastpass, I know less then zero.

One of these days I'll pick a car up from garage A and end up on the 528 and be completely lost.

Mick

Many of the Japanese brands are behind with AA. Ford should all have sync 3 except very basic models of escape, lookninside easy to id. Cherokee should have it I think and most new model chevy or other American brands with possible exception of most basic spec.

Look for large screen and maybe do some research on brand websites.

Ford Mustang - sat nav worked brilliantly - but just remember it wont kick in till you get out of the underground car park!
