I would suggest the Hotel Union Square:
hotelunionsquare/index.html Art deco style hotel, lots of history and personality and very reasonable rates. Amy |

I'd recommend you try and get a hotel through Hotwire. We got the Radisson Fisherman Wharf last November for $73 a night. The downside is that you don't know which hotel you get until you click 'buy'. However you can specify which area you want (ie Fishermans Wharf, Union Square etc) and what star rating you'd prefer. I also found that by looking at the faciilities the hotel offered (it tells you if there's a pool, bar, restaurant etc) you can usually narrow it down. When we did it last year I narrowed it down to one of 2 - the Radisson or the Holiday Inn) - and was pretty sure it would be the Radisson... and I was right!

One thing that I found with SF is that no where or nothing is CHEAP!

I'm not so sure you can say that. I booked a Comfort Inn on Polk Street a few years back for $70 a night. I believe it's now an independent hotel but the major plus side for people driving and staying there was free parking, a rarity in SF.
To the OP I would go down the Hotwire route in SF. Utilise betterbidding to help try and pinpoint the likely hotel but be warned (or should that be your friend), once it is booked it is final. No refunds. Hotwire narrows down the areas better than Priceline. |
