Afterwards after a day or so she is usually ok. But she hasn't had the rest of the illnesses your daughter has right now.

Swimming is off the cards for 4 weeks to help it heal. We had 8 weeks off last year after a run of burst ear drums. Fingers crossed since then, we haven't had one.

I hope she feels better soon. X
Oh gosh, your poor dd!
It seems it burst when my dd was asleep too as the first we knew about it was when she woke up and we saw her ear so I suppose the saving grace is that she didn't suffer from the awful popping pain.
We won't be going swimming anytime soon , been on the lesson waiting list for nearly a year !
Thank you

Thank you . I didn't realise this was so common . She's had ear infections before but only one or two. She does get a lot of colds though !
Thank you

It took 2/4 weeks for him to get his hearing back he's now paranoid as he says the frustration at school not hearing the pain and the ringing in his ear was awful
His answer was and still is paracetamol a hoodie and a hot water bottle
Ear plugs when taking off and landing and swimming and cubby cotton buds to gently dry out his ears even after a shower
She must feel awful and as he says isolated but he lip reads great now so beware
This are great tips , thank you .
Your poor ds .
I always get an ear ache when it's windy , so annoying .
Strangely enough, dd is actually pretty chipper considering .
I think as long as I stay on top of the calpol etc then she is practically pain free.
I will be keeping an eye on the hearing though , she's already a little better now the olive oil has partially unblocked the burst ear and has had me testing her . She makes me move further away and saying colours then she tells me what colour I've said , she wasn't so good yesterday lunch time but she did really well with it by bed time so fingers crossed !
Thank you

When I left school I was working as a teller in the Bank and in those days you had the screen and I struggled at times to hear customers. After many tests turned out I had an actual hole in my ear-drum and had it successfully repaired when I was 18. After heavy cold and bout of tinnitus I was referred again to specialist about 15 years ago and had to have the repair redone.
The motto of my waffle - if it keeps recurring please get it checked out by ENT specialist.
Best relief I got as child and then adult was hot water bottle wrapped in towel to lie my ear on, calpol or similar and sucking barley sugars as this helped the ear pop. Also try speaking into the ear that is not perforated as she may hear better in that one unless the infection is in both. Ask her if she is hearing humming, screeching or strange sounds as can cause tinnitus too and if she is then background noise from tv or music can help this. Hope she feels better soon xx
Thank you for this, I'll note it all down .
The infection is in both but only one ear is perforated thankfully .
She has a sheep that she has next to her bed that makes rain noise and helps her sleep and she can't hear that at the moment and comes down stairs crying but sadly I can't do anything about it

I really hope though this isn't the start of more infections as she's been pretty good on that front and has only had I think 1 or 2 at most but like I said previously she's often coldy and has a blocked or runny nose .
I'll definitely keep a very close eye on her .
Thank you

Oh ouch !
I think dd has got off pretty lightly with the pain as she's only really complained a couple of time .
I hope her hearing doesn't take that long to come back and I'm unsure what to do about school as gp said as long as she's not in pain she can go . Just seems abit quick if she can't hear properly and I'll have to tell her teacher to watch out for her in PE.
She's staying off today and probably tomorrow then I'll see how she goes . Was going to say "then I'll play it by ear"😳
Thank you

We're going through the same thing. My sons had a cold for 2 weeks then he woke up monday morning at 3am screaming in pain saying his ear hurt until about 10 when it stopped which i presume is when his eardrum popped relieving the pressure. Took him to the drs yesterday and they said he has a very nasty ear infection and looks like his eardrum has burst. Sent home with lots of antibiotics. Not easy giving them to a 3 year old that hates medicine! Hope your daughter feels better soon x

Ah no ! Really hope he is on the mend soon , so much harder when they're younger .
Dd hates the medicine and pulls all sorts of faces but she knows she has to have it and enjoys asking her dad to watch what funny face she pulls next. 😳

Dd had awful ent problems from age 3 to 15. Three and half (!) sets of grommets, removal of anenoids, removal of tonsils. All different operations. My advice is keep a record of all ear infections, throat infections etc so you can "prove" to hospital consultant they do need treatment. I had to fight so hard to have her tonsils removed. She used to wake every morning with tonsil stones in her mouth, suffered with a quinsy(trip to A and E) and in the end the surgeon had to laser tonsils away. Awful. Anyway she too had a perforated eardrum which actually made ear infections easier to bear as infection could run out. Perforation healed itself and now she is 18 ears etc are all fine. Touch wood!
