I don’t take any notice of what type of aircraft I am on, I only care about my seat, my TV and what wine they are serving.

But I get that it’s now time for it to go and it helps that the 787 and 350 genuinely move the dial in terms of comfort/experience and hopefully we’ll see more advances like this as Boeing and Airbus compete to outdo each other.
I’ll miss them too, we went on a Virgin 787 last year and economy is the most uncomfortable I have ever been on a seat, very thin, very narrow, awful.

Designed as a freighter, served its time as a people carrier for the millions, but now high polluting, lumbering outdated, uneconomic airframes. The ones that are left should be converted back to freighters.
However, I’d think that the airframes on many will be coming close to their end of life operational hours, then it’s either a complete strip to every nut and bolt, every weld rechecked, all paint removed etc, which would cost a fortune and you still end with an uneconomic aircraft, or a trip to a retirement home in the Arizona desert.
There’s some here...

I’ll really miss them, they are so iconic! First plane I ever flew on.

I’m gonna miss sitting upstairs on the Virgin 747! I forget there’s all those people underneath you! Now I will just be in normal economy with everyone else.

I'll miss them in a nostalgic way but appreciate the comfort of the A380 going forward, it's a good flight experience and presumably the technology is far superior.
I miss Concorde far more than I'll ever miss any 747. A true icon.

I'm not that bothered about the jumbos going out of service.

But then I wasn't that bothered about steam trains going out of service either (at the time) but really like them now!

I saw a YouTube video recently which explain why. Sadly I can't imagine supersonic travel returning in the next decade.

I agree - especially about Concorde being an icon. Where I used to live you could almost set your watch by the sound of Concorde flying overhead on her way to New York

You'll still see the 747 for quite some time but in the 800 variant..

Granted there are only around 45 in service as passenger carriers but there are 100+ being used as freight carriers.

I love the 747 and always will, but it's a good thing most airlines are now retiring their 747-4 fleet as they're loud and stupid expensive to run/maintain.
