I live not far and apparently it is true. The original building a mansion dating back to the mid 1300s and then played an active part in the Civil War, it was burnt to the ground by Cromwell and in the late 1600/1700s rebuilt/restored and subsequently renamed the Burnt Stub, then suffered another fire and restored in the early 1900's. Chessington Zoo as it used to be known before it became what it is today opened in 1930 or thereabouts. I've fond memories of regularly visiting it in the 1970's as I lived locally, my parents attended a number of functions at the Burnt Stub. A lot different and quieter back then lol

Quick google and they have insisted to local press that isn't a publicity stunt but it does smack of one - especially the clause that the buyer has to stay in the house from 17-31 October before taking over the lease.

feels very much like a Halloween competition where the winner gets to be scared ****less for 2 weeks

Is it not the seller that’s asked to reside there till 31/10? Is that so Chessington can still use it in their Halloween “events”?

I think this is a marketing ploy. If you go to the website you can chessington/2019/ You can "Sign up below to find out who will be taking up residence in Spring 2019…(Goblins included)"

No way it's real. Why would you sign up to find out that some random had bought it?

I also think it's a marketing ploy with the comment above about them letting you know who is taking up residence!
Its very odd otherwise! Who would want to live in the middle of a theme park?!

Tempted to sign up. Thinking if marketing ploy - perhaps they fancy giving me a free night at the new hotel 😁

One of my friends got married there!
Whilst It wasn’t Hocus Pocus back then and the park was closed, they did still have to enter through the turnstiles!

100% marketing ploy.

The Gruffalo ride opened in 2017 and the likelihood is that this ride will be rethemed to a Room on a Broom attraction for 2019 to compliment the existing Julia Donaldson ride.
