Maybe! I saw you could get shoes! I’ve a feeling he’d eat them though given the fact he steals all our clothes and the kids toys. 🤣

I’ve just got a maltese puppy too! Well he’s 18 weeks so a bit older than yours. But he can also be stubborn and plants his feet when he doesn’t want to move! He’s pretty good though and has got used to loud noises - time will help your little fella. Google “loose lead walking” videos as there are lots of tips there. Treats work (sometimes) but mine has definitely got better as the weeks have gone on. They quickly grow in confidence.

They are definitely the cutest dogs on the block

Worst offender in our house was my DH who before we started going out had never been around dogs he used=to go into a right panic when the big dogs Doberman’s Weimaraners Vislas literally just shoved the full time house dogs out the way ( same dogs were very much in charge )
He still lifts Madame ie Yoda our Frenchie who is very much top dog when the other 3
Visla Weimaraner and staffie let rip and play Wilde but she’d love to be right in the thick of things as I let/her
I chuck them all out in the garden it’s all noise and our sons new Akita puppy when she’s vaccinated will be thrown in to,the mix but I’m very very much in charge and take no prisoners as the boys tell their dogs

We look after my nieces dachshund and he will not walk on tarmac! My niece said the vet said he has really sensitive pads and toes so maybe your little one is similar. Off his lead on fields he is fab except for getting round liquid mud or puddles, but the 100yards to there I just carry him. He is then quite happy to do any of our walks some of which are about 8km!

Have you done the carrying him around stage? We were told to make a point of taking the puppies out and carrying them through busy streets so they got used to the sounds and smells. We did this for a couple of weeks whilst we were finalising the vaccinations anyway.

I suspect he is scared so I would do this for the next two weeks and then walk him in quieter areas maybe with treats in your pocket. I think at one point we walked with low fat cheese spread and would give them a little every now and again.

Thanks all for your super useful advice. Yes we are doing the carrying him around stage at the min, we take him everywhere with us and mainly carry him, well we full on carry him as when we put him down he won’t move. We didn’t go out today in the end as it’s been a rubbish day and he hates rain. He’s had run in the garden but he just came back in.
Interesting you should say about the pavements as he loves our grass so maybe so, my hubby said a similar thing.
We live in a very rural quiet village on a cul de sac so it’s not that busy but we’ve carried him round a couple of garden centres and pets at home a few times.

He is of course a complete baby and will get used to the world.

However, some of the issues may be that he’s a little old for the real socialisation to have started.

When puppies get to 11-12 weeks they lose their pup fearlessness and get nervous about things. If they had seen those places from arms at 8 weeks, then they feel ok about them.

We got our lad at 7 weeks and 1 day, so too early. However he was one of 13 and his mummy couldn’t feed the bigger ones any more so the breeder asked if we wanted to collect him as we knew what we were doing and had been weaned for some time. They thought he would be better with one to one support, well 5 to one support really.

We have horses so had to get him
used to them so I carried him around to meet them all and he was completely fearless then, but new situations a few weeks later he was quite anxious really.

It’s such a weird time with Covid and everything, but I can really recommend puppy classes or a good dog trainer. The one we used is in Cheshire but does a zoom call for new puppies which is apparently excellent.

But he’ll definitely figure life out, I prefer a simple lead and collar and lots of treats and praise ❤️
