TRIP REPORT: Day -1 Pre-Travel Day – Thursday 19th September
Welcome to another trip report and hopefully you’ll stick with me whilst I share our most recent adventure – a trip to the Asian Disney Resorts to complete the 6 Castle Challenge, and to visit all 12 Disney Parks in the World!
Pre-travel day started like any other for us – an early alarm to finish the final bits and pieces around the house, and then my usual commute into work. I stopped off at Tesco Express to get some lunch as I knew I wouldn’t make it out of the office today and our fridge was totally bare. Work was a bit hectic – a grenade had been dropped the previous evening and I needed to fight some fires – but after some running around, I got there in the end. I left the office at 2.30pm, dialled into my final meeting 3-4pm, and then hit the ‘log off’ button. The Out of Office was on! Our airport car to take us to Gatwick South Terminal was due at 4.30pm but arrived at 4.15pm so we did the final bits and pieces and headed out to meet the driver. The journey to Gatwick was unremarkable. We hit some traffic on the M25 but arrived at 7pm which was as expected for me. We checked into the Hilton Gatwick, before dropping our bags into the room and walking over to Giraffe in the terminal building. A quick word on the Hilton – we had booked this using Hilton Honours points which I had exchanged from Virgin Flying Club miles. Our room definitely needed some love. When we last stayed here in 2012, we had a newly refurbished room and our room had clearly not been touched in some years. Had I paid £130+ for this room, I would have been sorely disappointed. They probably put paying customers in the new wing but in that case, I am not keen on the principle. I doubt we will stay here again. For £50 ish, the Premier Inn was a much nicer stay. Our meal on the other hand was good – since we had the whole evening ahead, and were on our jollydays, we decided to have starters. Matt had the Karaage Chicken, I had the Salt & Pepper Squid; and Matt had the Chicken Katsu Curry for main where I had the Thai Duck Stirfry with a side of gyoza. With 2 7-Ups, and a 15% ‘My Gatwick’ discount, the meal came to £46.75. On our way back, we stopped by M&S for some pudding. I had a Best Ever Trifle (trust me, it really is the best!), and Matt had a chocolate mousse pudding type thing, which with some water came to £5.35. After this, we headed back to the room. By 9pm, I had sorted out our things for tomorrow, and was in bed just chilling out, with the whole two weeks’ adventure yet. Perfect. |

Ooo am really excited to read this! The food looks amazing! Shame you were disappointed with your room, but I’m guessing that meant things could only get better in terms of accommodation
