I just got mine back - it was well within the 3 weeks they estimate. Think I had it within 2 weeks of first applying.

Hi Dunc, easiest option may be the £75.50 online application (£85 for postal application). If you still resemble your expired pp photo either upload your own photo (they'll advise if acceptable) or have them taken at a booth with a code to enter on pp application, complete, pay and submit. You must post your expired pp to the address given on screen before they'll process your application.
As your holiday is booked it may be wise to get your pp soonest as you'll need to apply for ESTA ($14 charge, only use the official site, HERE. You must thoroughly read the ESTA application. The Dept of Homeland Security updated the form in 2018, they now require 'names per pp', it's clearly outlined on the application with diagram/text alongside the name question, plus a pop up appears when you click to enter your names.

Do it online a lot quicker. The post office service is a waste of money.

Thanks, all. Not overly worried about ESTA, as I've had them every year since they came in. And although the holiday's booked, I'm not paying till April.

Did my new one lay year after the dog had managed to put teeth marks in mine. Used the check and send service at the post office (now £16 but worth it) and New one was back in just over a week. They do say allow three weeks though
