barium meal test

Has anyone had a barium meal test? If so, whats it like? I imagine the scan is fine but whats the drink like?

Hi

The honest opinion - awful. But I have a terrible gagging reflex. They ended up putting it in through a tube up my nose as I couldn’t drink it. The nose tube was fine though.

I had one 30 years ago when I was 11yts old and can still remember it 🙈 I was bribed with ear piercings to get enough of it down me! It’s not very nice.

My son has had various barium meal tests and just downs it. He’s a champ!

It didn’t bother me to be honest, tasted like aniseed from what I remember, I bloody hate Pernod as well!

I’ve had a couple of the years. Years ago you had to drink the whole lot down before the X-ray, which was awful.
Last time, a couple of years ago, I just had to take a bit at a time, as and when told during the X-ray. This was much better.

Horrible, thick, chalky stuff. The nurse said to me "just swallow it you big baby". 😂😂

I wonder if its worth asking if they can fit him in before Tuesday because his tube comes out then. It might be easier going through the tube x x

I had to be bribed to have my ears pierced, I don’t do pain and was terrified. I was desperate to have earrings but too scared to have them done 😬
