Sad to see. The fires could be seen all over South Wales.

I will say however that never have so many workers had freezers full of pork in their lives!
I worked for George Wimpey too, late 1970s.

I was working on a cruise ship round the Med at the time - mainland Europe was fine, but I think it was Majorca (Palma) where we had to go over a disinfectant mat when leaving and boarding the ship. They were trying to preserve the advantage in slowing transmission that being an island gave them, iirc.

It was bad. Locked down totally. One of my liveries worked at the zoo. She was told keep your job or go and see your horse. No school/nursery for the boys. Disinfectant everywhere. We were halfway through building a house and had to send the builders away to another job as we couldn't risk transmission. We tried to stop walkers and cyclists going past as the road is so close to the cattle shed. People just didn't get it. Or didn't care. And then when we went to the states we had to declare we lived on a farm and they checked our shoes etc for any dirt. So many suicides amongst the farming community and now again a generation later. So sad.
