Terrible neck pain.

Any clue anyone?
This past week hubby has started with really severe neck pain. He is very poorly with MND, so can't use his arms and legs plus he has arthritis of the spine.
I had a terrible time getting him into bed tonight, basically couldn't move him.
He had a dreadful night Wednesday, up all night having painkillers so we phoned the doctor who said they would visit Friday. Thursday he had the best night ever so the doctor didn't visit and is phoning Monday.
So tonight terrible pain back with a vengeance.
He wouldn't let me phone 111. However if it looks like we will be up all night I will.
He's taking the maximum tramadol and paracetamol, tried a heat pad.
Any other suggestions?

I’m currently on the sofa with a hot water bottle (kettle hot) under my neck after nearly passing out in work due to pain earlier. I don’t find the heat pads work, but I do find a difference with a hot water bottle.
Or ice? That could reduce any swelling inside.

I’ve got a couple of massagers but they do bruise because the pain gets that bad and for me it’s in a place under my skull I have to push it right in.

I hope he feels better soon x

Alternate the heat with ice packs support his head on both sides socks stuffed gently with socks or tea towels again warm or cold if he uses a pillow change it to the cool side when you move him
And the Doctor needs to visit Monday never mind if he has a good night or not Sunday
We found all of these useful when we cared for a friend with MND
There were 4 of us and Mcmillen nurses the other 3 nights you need to ask for help now you can do so much more if you can sleep knowing someone else is there For you both

Has he recently had his vaccine Julie? Could it be his pillow/mattress?

I have no helpful suggestions to make, but I just wanted to wish you both all the best...chronic pain and lack of sleep are so difficult to live with.

Please try to make the most of any help available

Have you contact with the mnd association for advise & support .Neck pain can be due to hypoxia/lack of head support and many other reasons. Regardless of good/bad night doctor should visit to rule out/in the cause. Do you have a physio involved?

Thanks all.
This morning DH got these fluid filled bags under his eyes, as well the neck pain.
So I phoned 111 who sent out an ambulance. They said DH has a chest infection. He has rescue antibiotics and steroids so we have started him on those.
DH didn't want to go to hospital, so they phoned the doctor who said the steroids should help the neck pain. We have to phone the doctor this afternoon if things don't improve.
We'll get in touch with the specialist MND nurse tomorrow see if she can offer advice.
He's back on his ventilation now.
He's in his usual good spirits though.

I don’t have any experience with MND, but have been in a similar position taking care of a loved one. No advice, I just wanted to send you a virtual Hug, sometimes the nights feel so long, thinking of you and your DH, I hope the new medications help and bring some relief.
