Tokyo -post olympics .
Like many , we have no holidays booked for next year but after putting it on the back burner we have found some decent deals for after the olympics (mid-end of aug) .
We’re only planning on Tokyo this trip with a couple of days at Disneyland/Disney sea . Just want to know the best areas to stay that aren’t too far from the station? Will be two adults and a 10 year old . Not really any budget so can splurge if we need to . We are also aware it will be really hot so are prepared for that ! Thanks in advance . |

We stayed at the Hyatt regency Tokyo near Shinjuku. We really liked the hotel as it was pretty central and had a nice pool and great breakfast. We had a great BA holiday deal of flight and hotel. It was ten minutes walk to the main station and good if you want to be near Shinjuku. It also had a bus from the train station, but we liked to walk. I’m not sure how easy it would be to get to Disney though.

Following along as we are hoping to go in November.
We want to stay at the Ambassador for the Disney leg, or if budget doesn’t permit, the Hilton or Sheraton. We are struggling with the Tokyo leg though. We were initially going Nov 2020 and had planned on a budget hotel such as the Citadines Shinjuku or Mercure Ginza. But since we now have another year to save up, we can set our sights a bit higher.

We stayed at the Sheraton near Disney when we went a few years ago. It was really convenient for Disney. We got there early and checked in at a Disney/partner hotel check in place near Maihama station. Got Disneyland tickets there. Left our luggage there too, and luggage turned up in our room at the Sheraton later that day.
From the Sheraton, you can walk (really short walk) or take a shuttle from the hotel to the monorail station. The monorail station goes between the station for the partner hotels, Disneyland, and Disney Sea. You do have to pay a small amount for monorail tickets though. But it is incredibly convenient to use. We actually just used the Sheraton as a base for Tokyo, just took the train from Maihama station into the city. If you want to splurge on a hotel - the hotel Mira Costa looks absolutely amazing! This is the hotel at the entrance to Disney Sea (similar Disney hotels would be the Disneyland hotel at DLP and the Grand Californian at Disneyland) and it's one of the places I would stay in if money was no object! Otherwise, the Disneyland hotel also looks pretty fantastic and it is at the entrance to Disneyland. Just a quick note to add that TDR gets really crowded at weekends and holidays as it is a locals' park, so do check crowd calendars when planning your trip! We ended up changing which days we were going to be in TDR so that we would avoid being there at the weekend.

We did Hilton Tokyo Bay (next door to Sheraton) and then moved to the JR Mets Hotel in Shibuya Station at the New South Exit.
Small room but it did have air con that could freeze an elephant, a rare thing in Japan we found! Not that they do not have air con, they do but generally used it to take the edge of the heat, rather than cool / freeze the air like they do in the States. We loved the location as it was walkable distance to may things we wanted to see, or had great links via trains etc in the station itself. |

Thanks AntonyJ, we will be there in November so hopefully not such an issue.
We are looking at Ryokans but the more deluxe end - we definitely want our own bathroom.
