We spent 4 nights in Kyoto in December, it is such a beautiful city. Have you thought about an Airbnb? We hired a gorgeous villa in Higashiyama, which was a couple of minutes walk to Gion and near to the Kiyomizu-dera temple. We used the buses to get around that were regular and easy to use.

I didn’t do a proper trip report but did write this below.
https://www.thedibb.co.uk/forums/sho...ght=Eki+stamps We are going to fly with BA and have just looked and discovered we have until tomorrow night to book before the conditions change. Will make final decisions on dates tomorrow morning now but it will be around 14/15 nights. Our plan is to base ourselves in Tokyo and Kyoto again with several day trips. |

Hi - as mentioned above you could look at luggage forwarded options. Pretty much every hotel will arrange for your luggage to be forwarded on to another location and it's widely used in Japan.
We were planning on using it this summer and I think it worked out about £15 per case. Alternative could be to fly from Tokyo to Osaka on an internal flight. Osaka is about 20 mins from Kyoto on the train so another option to minimse luggage lugging would be base yourself in one or the other. |

Yes very reliable by all accounts. All the airports also have kiosks for it etc, just seems more the done thing in Japan.
The link below has more info on both luggage forwarding and travelling with luggage on the bullet trains (max size is total dimensions of 250cm and max weight of 30kg which you might find is plenty). m.japan-rail-pass/mobile...-luggage-japan |
