I would say fo check any offers Disney may be having as some actually work out better and even cheaper over the long run than buying resale.

Don't forget the dues!
Plus don't visit a new resort unless you want more points. We saw VGF being built and thought we wouldn't like it. Visited when it opened and that was it, more points. |

Agree. If you are on property I always recommend taking the tour. I think you owe to yourself to check it out with the tour. You might find out that DVC is not for you but, of course, it might end up being a great thing for you.

The use year is vital. It never really occurred to me before ( Ive owned since 2004) but needing to cancel a May holiday in 2019 ( medical) and May this year, Ive realised an August use year is rubbish for May holidays, because I miss my banking window if I have to cancel and my points are then stuck and can expire. Ive booked for Sep next year which gives me more options.
So my advice is to work out when you generally go away, and get a use year just before

If you know when you generally travel this is key. Jason Erpelding Lic. Real Estate Broker Buy and Sell DVC, Inc.®

Thank you for the recommendations. In response to ‘buy from Jason’- Who’s Jason please? I’m looking to buy resale.

You can never do enough research! All of the above really, do all of that then sit back & take the rose tinted DVC glasses off & seriously look at the negative column, first & foremost disregard the "look at what you could have won" thought process this only applies if you were going to stay at those resorts anyway. Other things have come to light in recent times eg DVC resorts have been open since last Summer but not a one of us can get there unless we some how can manage a 14 day holiday somewhere on the US exemption list first & you don't stop paying dues just because you can't get there! Our dues have gone down $7/month, due to last years closures but we are still paying for something that we "Hope" we might get to use this year!
Not sure I could advocate buying Direct on any of the new resorts, at those prices, so would always recommend Resale. I always sound so negative on DVC but n reality we love it but I personally (DW might say different) wouldn't go near it now. SD
