Avis charged us for tolls 1 month after we home!

Just by checking OH noticed Avis have charged us for tolls 1 month after we got home. Emailed them saying the sunpass was turned off and we paid cash at all tolls, they have not responded just gave us a ticket number have gone back again stating ticket number and still no response!

Did you maybe accidentally go through a sunpass lane or didn't pay at one as that would create a charge when you get back

I know it does take up to 28 days for charges to come off. Any chance you missed one?

I didn't think that cars hired from the main companies had transponders that you turned on/off now? I thought they all worked on ANPR that takes a photo of your number plate now?

Ask them to provide photographic evidence of the toll plaza where they say you incurred the charge.

Its normal to get billed a month or two after you get home however getting billed when you've paid clearly isn't right. Have you downloaded your toll receipt from e-tolls? Budget & Avis vehicles sometimes have the transponder in but doesn't really make a difference in Florida.. If you drive through a Sunpass lane with it switched off, it'll activate the toll by plate system.

Andy

I learnt only recently (despite me posting photos of the toll plazas a hundred times on here ) that even the cash lanes are now Sunpass enabled.

Had an interesting debate with another Dibber (chmurf I think ) as to why you weren't charged twice if you paid cash. We decided that once you got the green light it automatically deletes the photo that it just took of your plate. Can't think of any other logical conclusion.

As others have said this would be normal as it takes time for the Sunpass toll charges to come through and as others have said I thought this was done via camera taking your registration plate.

I can only assume you went through a Sunpass toll that you didn't realise.

We showed no extra charges on our Alamo rental but we know we have a couple of toll charges coming for our visit to Wild Florida as they have a couple of Sunpass only Tolls (we usually pay cash for them all).

Thank you didn't know you could get a receipt so will look into that.

Also we were very careful with which lane we used to no possibility of us going through the wrong one, was something I was very conscious of thanks to the dibb.

In our car on the windscreen in the middle what I assume was the sunpass which had a lever moving up and down saying on and off to we moved it to off position

If you are certain you haven't gone through a toll unpaid, demand a copy of the actual ticket issued by the Sunpass Authority. You can raise a disputed with your CC company.

Dollar tried this with us a few years ago. We have our own Sunpass. We contacted Sunpass directly and there was no ticket issued issued to the vehicle tag plate we hired and our online account with them showed all paid through the tolls we had been through. Dollar tried to fob us off with their own typed up document. Erm, no!

They could not produce the original ticket, because it didn't exist. Clearly they hoped we would just pay up and go away. It was fraudulent, nothing less. We were refunded.

We don't touch Dollar now and prefer Enterprise.

We got caught out in Tampa... 589 Veterans Expressway...
The cameras flash you as you come off.

We didn't realise it was a toll road...Google maps sent us that way..
