Mobile Fuel pump trick 5 digit zip code

First time I have heard of the zip trick when buying fuel with a uk credit card in the USA

Will give it a try when we are there in a couple of weeks

Has anyone tried it and does it work

Here is the info in case you were wondering what I am talking about

To pay for fuel at the gas pump in the USA with a British credit card, when asked for the zip code enter the digits from your postcode, ignoring the letters, and then enter zeros (0) to fill the remaining digits until you have 5 digits in total. For example, if your postcode in the UK is NG29 1JX enter 29100; if your postcode in the UK is W1 1AA enter 11000.

Hmm, that's interesting, potentially then could you put in an america zip code e.g I know what the zip code of the villa we go to is, or would it not be accepted against a UK credit card?

I would always just put 00000? As it's a U.K. Card registered to use abroad I've never had any issues.

I do the same thing in the Redbox machines

Aren't US fuel stations hotspots for credit card skimming?

Yes they are if you go in to prepay for the fuel. That's why I wanted to try the trick at the pump

We've never managed it - always end up paying in the kiosk. Tried the all zeros route and us zip code no success.
