Also I’ve never experienced this before as I rarely take meds but shocked as the drs words were “it might even be slightly cheaper “
Why would she say this? Surely she must’ve had an idea ? So I’m sure people can understand the shock ? |

The OP is complaining because the GP gave the impression that the item wouldn’t cost any more than a regular prescription unfortunately Doctors don’t always get it right.
OP I don’t think there’s much you can do now, but for future reference tell the pharmacy you want to know the price before they order an item. You can always check the price with an online pharmacy like LLoyds. |

I might be annoyed but I wouldn’t see that it was a cause for complaint. I don’t believe an item like this should be provided foc as it’s a convenience medication for a holiday. It cost me a fortune, well £135pp for malaria meds and a yellow fever vaccination last year - no expectation it should be on the NHS.

My views, for what they are worth:
1) the pills aren’t needed as medical treatment, they are for your “convenience”, a life-style choice to make your holiday better. So in principle I don’t think they should be given to you by NHS prescription, ie subsidised by the tax payer. 2) £26 is what the pills actually cost. The NHS will pay similar (well, less because they will buy ‘wholesale’) but then could charge you only £9 under an NHS prescription. The difference (£17) falls into the NHS deficit. So I think the GP was right. The £26 is part of the cost of your holiday, and I think the results will be worth every penny. |

OP I understand what you mean about being told it’ll be cheaper but the GP made a mistake. Maybe she was thinking of another medication or it’s only recently gone up in price. Annoying, yea, but not something to complain about.
No the same doesn’t apply because in that case you have an illness or injury, a period is neither. It is a massive massive pain in the bum coming on while you’re on holiday but it’s not the same as picking up an illness/injury. |

The whole point is Ive has said item loads on nhs and paid nhs price so wasn’t expecting this as it wasn’t a new medication to me .
Then there was what the GP said surely she should have had some idea? Not wanting a taxpayers and nhs debate here . *disclaimer* I’m NOT now going to complain I’m going to query why dr didn’t know . Edited at 09:08 AM. |
