Rented pocket wifi and worked a treat, did not go the sorts of speeds they spoke of in the ads, but it worked great and the battery lasted all day. When I suggest is was slower, I mean go to meg speeds instead of 85 meg, which is plenty for maps etc!
did not go for SIM as the data caps were lower than wifi units, and still wanted to be able to get bank / credit card "did you make this transaction? " texts from home. |

Shame you won't have time to visit Nara. Ditto with Hiroshima. For me, seeing the wrecked building that still stands at what was the epicentre of the bomb, was spinechilling.
I agree that toilets are everywhere, but I remember that at one shrine (can't remember which), all but one of the women's toilets were the "hole in the floor" variety. Scrupulously clean but not something I would use. There was one door marked "Western Toilet" With a long queue for it. I knew only one word of a Japanese - Arigato which means thank you. I used it a lot and people seemed so pleased. Also if anyone gives you the Japanese-style bow, it's nice to do the same. Check it out on YouTube. Unlikely to see Fuji at this time of year, even from Hakone. Enjoy - I had a fab time although I didn't go to Disney etc. |

We used a wifi brick from rentalwifi.com. it was the 75mb unlimited data. It worked flawlessly for 4 devices plugged in all day. We got about 30mb from it speed wise. Kids streamed netflix on the bullet train.
We were surprised on how much free wifi was available whilst out and about though. Disney had free wifi near main street equivalent. |

We also rented pocket WiFi and it was delivered and waiting for us when we arrived at the hotel. We did not data sim.

Can I ask how much the pocket WiFi is roughly - I’m with Vodafone so can pay £6 pd and use my allowance (unlimited calls and texts and 100gb data) am going for 7 days so would be £42. Just wondering which is the better option. Thanks 😄

It is a long time since we went to Japan but I used to write reviews back then so I have just re read a couple.
I have commented in one that the public conveniences are plentiful and very good standard although I have not commented on shrines in particular, but we did go to several. I have a weak bladder and I am sure I would not have been as positive had their been any issues. But what first caught my eye was your comment on the Park Hyatt (Lost in Translation) hotel. We stayed here for the final two days and according to my review, the staff were thoroughly unpleasant particularly those in the bar and restaurant (not something you come across often in Japan!). They were very snooty and judgemental, I had gone up to book a table after a day of travel but before my room was ready. They told me straight out, no availability, same for the next day. When I expressed my disappointment that as a hotel guest I could not eat in the restaurant, suddenly I was able to take my pick of times and day. Anyway as I say, it was a long time ago, nearer to the Lost in Translation time, virtually every member of staff mentioned Lost in Translation but hopefully they are over that now! |

I know, Hiroshima was originally in the plan but we made our trip shorter. We have an elderly cat and we don't like leaving him to long.
It's top of my list, along with Nara for when I go back though!

Thank you. I will be looking at this. I love that they deliver it to your hotel as well!

To be honest the prices make me wince. I've worked out it's about £18 for a cocktail! and there is also a service charge but my DH is a massive fan of the film and really wants to go there. I personally would be happy with the view from the Government building. I did mention your comments to try and put him off a bit but he still really wants to go. Fingers crossed they have upped their service.
