Thank-you both. We've got the Courtyard Liberty Station booked on a cancellable rate for the time being and will keep watching the prices on the Hyatt & Hilton. It's currently $199 for the Courtyard vs $285 for the Hyatt and $266 for the Hilton plus tax so still a bit of a difference.

The price difference sounds about right. You'll find that the further away from downtown you go, the more the prices will drop. Glad you were able to book a cancellable rate! Hopefully, you'll come across an even better deal as time goes on.

Another hotel we enjoyed which was well placed was the Hotel Bristol, just off the edge of the GLQ. Looks very unassuming but was really quite nice.

Nice to hear your recommendation- I've wondered what that hotel was like.

Hi Amy

Just after a bit of advice please. We're planning on San Diego Zoo and the USS Midway Museum.

In terms of seeing San Diego don't know whether it's relatively easy to drive and park in different areas. Just looking at the Hop On Hop Off Trolley and whether it's worth while or whether self drive will be ok. This is especially so as the last trolley leaves Old Town at 4 which might be a bit early.

Many thanks.

Hi tocpe321! You'll have no problem self driving in San Diego. All the big attractions will have their own parking, including the USS Midway and the Zoo. The roads are easy and straightforward, and if you have a sat nav with, you'll be good. The only thing to be aware of is that you'll have to pay for parking at the Midway, but you can leave your car there if you want to explore other areas on the boardwalk around the Midway after you're done with the tour. There's a nice little Maritime Museum a short walk away that has a collection of historic ships. You have to pay to see them and go on-board, but you could also just walk by and get a look at some of them, including our iconic Star of India sailing ship. Here's more info on the Maritime Museum if you might be interested: sdmaritime/

The Zoo has a big parking lot and it's free parking. The hop on/off trolley is a fun thing to do, and I recommend it if you have a couple free hours on one of your days- but as you said, there are time restrictions so maybe not the best choice for seeing the Zoo and the Midway, as both require a bit of time to see properly. But you'll find driving around San Diego easy enough.

What an incredible string and thanks such a great amount for setting aside the opportunity to assemble it! Going by one year from now as a feature of a West drift outing and going to San Diego for a couple days
