Read the whole thing from the beginning just now. I'm so sorry to hear you suffered a bit of a setback during lockdown. The uncertainty had to be very difficult for her.
Hopefully, if she can return to working regularly it will be a bit of a return to normality and so help her to get back in the swing of things. She did well getting a job and being kept on! Sending my best wishes from one Emma to another. |

Unfortunately , no .
Confusion reigns supreme at the moment . Our GP chased up saying it was urgent , but instead of that pushing her higher up the list in the right department, they put her on with the critical care team in another area of the NHS. So a couple of exploratory phone calls from them , we explained we just wanted to go down the other path , they are saying it’s in the hands of her former therapy team , but that team have seemingly discharged her and won’t help. Our Gp is on hols - coming back today - so hoping to get her involved and get it back on track Well done on reading the whole thread in one sitting . Emma is back working as normal which has been a lifeline . She is highly thought of there and is her safe place that keeps her busy

That sounds all to familiar sadly! my ds wasn't finally diagnosed until he was 19, we started pushing at 14! I know it doesn't change how things are but I really found it helpful in explaining things to ds and working through strategies etc. I know ds found a diagnosis really helpful too!
Good luck and hope you get on the right path soon!

My daughter's ASD diagnose was impossible to get in the UK too. It has made a huge difference to her in understanding why she struggles to fit in and thinks differently. Sadly it took developing Functional Neurological Disorder (Conversion Disorder) and stroke like symptoms to get any real help.
She definitely doesn't have anorexia but has instead gained huge amounts of weight since puberty. Maybe it is a different kind of eating disorder. Interestingly it may also be a way to keep her from growing up. That is a huge issue for her too. Counseling has been a huge help. Luckily here in Florida she was able to have online appointments and the hospital is fully open when needed.

Glad your dd is getting help now! I think things are more advanced in the US with ASD from what I have read? My son starves himself regularly and was very under weight for years. He now understands more about why he does that so is better at mananging his behaviour? Still struggles some days more than others, but is just about a healthy weight!

I do think they get diagnosed much younger here. Whenever I tell doctors that she didn't get diagnosed until 14, they are very surprised. However there are still plenty of undiagnosed adults with ASD here as well!
Children here have a pediatrician for primary care and annual exams. These appointments are at least 30 minutes long and allow time to discuss development etc rather than a 10 minute appointment to discuss one issue. These continue into adulthood with your primary care doctor. Before anyone mentions cost, the Affordable Care Act means all insurance companies have to cover these without charge as preventive care. Schools are also required to provide an Educational/Physcological exam if any issues are raised.
