having done both stay on and off site, i now always stay off site, mainly at the rosen inn pointe orlando for the nightlife across the road. Lots of food and eateries within 5 mins, plus a wallgreens.

Thanks all!

With the news literally yesterday that the Magic Express is closing in 2022, no EMH and probably no dining plan (particularly the free package we get in the UK usually!) - I think cheap off site will be better. Heartbreaking as I wanted my first time back there in YEARS to be the big Disney Magical Bubble, but my priorities are the rides and then the food, and without a dining plan, I'd rather save the money on a cheaper hotel so I can still stuff my face! PLUS, I'm quite excited to try out some of the other restaurants around - even iHop and Dennys, lol, which are two of my cheep-and-cheerful favourites.

Attraction Tickets Direct do a Universal & Disney ticket for 14 nights for £600ish atm - obviously that'll go up by 2022, but I'm thinking now what I may do is look into a hotel with a free cancelation, get that booked later this year and IF the dining plan/emh etc do come back, cancel that and jump straight into a Disney hotel.

My only Disney-related concern with being off site is snagging fast passes/dining reservations easily. Oh well, fingers crossed on that one I guess! Hoping mid Sept is a quieter time what with schools just gone back etc. Thanks for all your help!

I wouldn’t worry at all about getting dining reservations during a low period. Both times we have been (during low season) I have made dining reservations at 180 days out with the best intentions, and while we stuck to a few of them we ended up changing loads while we were there. People are always cancelling / rearranging so as long as you are checking regularly, you should have loads of choice!
