Any Rabbit owners

Hi all,

We have two outdoor rabbits that live in a shed.

I want to give the shed an overhaul and just wondered if any dibbers also have rabbits and what their ‘accommodation’ looks like to give me some ideas?

Hope people will share some pics!

Many thanks
Jayne

We just at got a standard rabbit hutch with cover, but just the one rabbit. I normally make my own hutches that get rather large with multiple levels and hiding places with More than 1 rabbit.

Sadly we lost our rabbits during the first lockdown they passed away within a few months of each other for different reasons. They had a shed to live in 5 x 7 ft. Inside I put a dog kennel (you could use a standard hutch) and filled it with straw so they could cuddle up on colder days. the kennel was around 2ft x 2ft so snuggly. It had no door they were never locked in that bit, they had the whole shed. next to the kennel was an old coffee table and then a step stool so they could hop on the step stool, then the coffee table (which they liked sitting under) then up on top of the kennel - so basically lots of different levels inside the shed to climb and hide. They also had 2 litter trays in there (to keep the floor drier and they were pretty good at using them). Then they had an eating area and some free floor space. The floor of the shed had old towels on the floor for comfort and warmth. They were changed every two to three days depending on how well they used their litter trays! The shed door had a cat flap on it so during the day they could come and go in and out the shed as they pleased (we have a secure walled garden) they were only locked away after tea time until morning. I hope they liked their set up! They seemed to. I absolutely loved those bunnies. We use the shed as a normal shed now so can't send pictures. The children wanted a dog so we now have a dog - no bunnies for now.

I have 6 rescue rabbits now (3 pairs) but in the past have had over 10 plus fosters and boarders too that came and went.

My friend set up the website The Big Rabbit hutch and it’s a great resource and inspiration for fab bunny homes.

This is some of my old accommodation, at the moment the buns live in a converted garage so have large pens in there. I use step stools, kids table and chair sets (IKEA are good), some manor pet housing furniture etc to make lots of levels for them. I also have a variety of things I use as hay racks - IKEA bag holders being one of my favourite. I use large 32l under bed storage boxes as litter trays and big dog bowls for water.
