I have the car in my avatar. Its 4 years old now and Ive only done 24,500 miles. Ive always loved BMW’s. I just love the German engineering and would not buy anything else.

Have a look at the new Skoda Octavia. A nice big boot with plenty of room inside.

My DH has a Hyundai Tucson on lease. Both of us Absolutely love it. Great to drive and very spacious. We’ve had it 2.5 years but wouldn’t hesitate to get another one. And my DH was so hesitant about a Hyundai but is a convert. So much so he is hoping that we will be offered the option to buy it which we were told would happen (we lease directly with Hyundai)

Saw someone else recommended Nationwide lease. No personal experience but my brother has been really happy with them and always gets decent deals. Certainly we almost went with them but managed to get a higher spec car for almost the same cost directly.

Thanks everyone for the advice, will look at all the suggestions. Think I need a spreadsheet to work out all the pros and cons between how to finance the car to which car I should pick! The other thing that seems to be an issue when looking the the pcp type deals is that I have an annual mileage of 12000 miles, not that high but lots of the deals seem to have a limit of 5-8000. I can change the filters on the Lease deals but not so easy with dealership sites.

I still cant get my head round renting/leasing a car rather than buying but can see the appeal of hassle free motoring and new car every 2/3 years or so

but I'm in the buy a car camp.. same as houses my rent when you can buy ?

not may folk would recommend renting if you are in a position to buy* ?

*although houses on the whole do not depreciate the way cars do...

I do know what you mean. I've always bought cars in the past but the reason I'm considering a lease is because of the amount of money I've spent on repairs. Something always seems to go wrong at the most inconvenient time, such as right now a few days before Christmas. If I had a lease car it would be brand new and hopefully less chance of something going wrong. My current car is an old car and doesn't cost us anything now, except for maintenance and repairs. It's a worry going on a long journey in case something happens and I'd rather have something reliable. The price of the car over a couple of years leasing seems to work out about the same as the depreciation of a new car? If I bought something a few years old it might be a bit cheaper but could also be inheriting someone else's car problems!
