Passport photo help!

My youngest needs a new passport. I'm trying to take a photo but he has his teeth showing (to be fair he has an over bit so his top teeth do protrude). If he closes his lips together he makes a strange face and his bottom lip sticks out.

He has autism and he doesn't understand what I'm asking him to do (he is 11).

None of the photo shops here are open (and he would be the same for them if not worse)!

Any ideas?

Not sure where the problem is? Having teeth showing on a passport photo does not make it unusable.

From gov.uk

In your photo you must:

be facing forwards and looking straight at the camera
have a plain expression and your mouth closed

His mouth isn't closed so it has been rejected.

You can submit it anyway with the over ride and reason stated.

Provided it's a plain expression and not a grin then it should be fine.

They have different rules for people with disabilities my brother has ASD and severe learning disabilities he doesn't look straight at the camera his eyes dont focus.

If you cannot meet the passport photo rules
If you have a disability that means you cannot meet the passport photo rules, give details in your application and send evidence.

If you apply online
Your photo will be automatically checked during your online application. If your photo fails the check you should:

submit the photo and explain why you cannot meet the rules in the additional information box
include a letter from your doctor or consultant that says what your condition is and whether it’s permanent or temporary
If you apply using a paper form
You should:

explain in section 8 of the application form
include a letter from your doctor or consultant that says what your condition is and whether it’s permanent or temporary

Also to add the online checker isn't very good at working out what is and isn't a great photo to use. We had issues getting my Dads pick to work as everywhere we tried it came back saying too dark. In the end I submitted using the "if you think it should work" option and the photo was accepted. Definitely try it as worse comes to it they will ask you to resubmit a photo but fingers crossed you can get it to work.

We had exactly the same issue. It said the photo would be rejected as it didn't meet the requirements - mouth open being the main one. My daughter has cerebral palsy which affects her facial muscles. We submitted it and explained this, although didn't send any additional evidence and her passport was delivered a week later.
