How are we feeling about May?

I booked a cruise from Barcelona 9th May when I was feeling optimistic.

However with the latest news that Belgium will only now be getting 50% of the vaccine it was promised in January enough for 150 000 people or 1.5% of the population I fear that we won't be anywhere near the end of this pandemic until well into Autumn at the earliest.

I think we shall be taking the FCC on our deposit unless much more promising news is delivered sooner.

Not forgetting it seems to take the European Medical Agency 6 weeks to approve a vaccine and no other vaccine has even submitted approval this means we are looking at end Feb before another vaccine comes online.

I cannot see a significant portion of Belgians/Spanish being vaccinated before Sept/Oct.

I cannot find any information anywhere about the numbers of bookings taken for my May cruise. Indeed all cabins were available for purchase so it wasn't like every second cabin was for sale. All cabins were for sale so it didn't look like a reduced capacity sailing.

Least we only paid deposit so no harm done but I think I will move it until April 2022 as even October is looking doubtful from where I sit at the moment.

I have a cruise booked for May, I’m just waiting for it to be cancelled (if it isn’t I’ll move it to 2021) and have booked Greece for June instead .

I know it’s not the same itinerary but our TA in May with Cunard as cancelled last week. We had moved it from May this year and have decided to just take our money back as it was for a special occasion both times and moving it again is just taking the shine off it.

Based on my basic, guess given how unpredictable it all is, I think it’s 50/50 at best maybe.

I posted up a McKinsey paper the other day which does a really good job of predicting the future- but if we get an unexpected mutation etc that could change I suppose.

Now that I see the EMA are going to probably approve the Moderna vaccine on 6th Jan I am more hopeful. Although it's not the main vaccine that the EU has ordered.

I notice that apart from the central order Belgium has also separately ordered 2 000 000 moderna vaccines enough to vaccinate just under 10% of the population.

We have a cruise booked out of Civitavecchia for April. I'm already looking at possible cruises to swap to for April 22! I really want it to happen, but my sensible head says it's all a bit dodgy and I doubt it will

Vaccine wise, I think it's unlikely we will get it before around September. I'm guessing we will need to get tested before we go if it happens.

We’re ‘scheduled’ to have the vaccination late Feb/early March and I’m still doubtful about our mid June cruise. I’m not going to reschedule yet and will wait to see if the cruise line cancel. If the ship sails and there are lots of restrictions like masks, ship only excursions, etc, we’ll have to think again.😟

We moved our October cruise from this year to an April cruise next year (with P&O). The cruise we have moved to looks like it's going to be the first one running (at present). Paid full balance on this at the weekend as was due, however just waiting for them to cancel so I can get all my monies back as I genuinely don't think this is going to run yet.

Kinda hope it is cancelled as when I rebooked, I also booked a follow on holiday to Greece the following week. Port on Saturday, fly on Sunday. Since booking, Greece now requires a negative covid test within 72 hours of departure and not sure how we can get that done in less than 24 hours!
