If you have a family and friends railcard you can get a child's (11-15) travel card for £2.30 and an adult for £6.10.

You got lucky then :-)

We have the vistor Oyster cards for us, I top them up when in London if needed and we just use what credit is on there, Its capped at the daily rate like debit cards / oyster cards.
