Travel city direct fly drive
Hello looking for some help regarding our car hire as I am getting slightly confused the more I read!
We have booked a fly drive package with travel city direct. The car package we have is for the economy with basic (minimum 3rd party cover) as when we booked It was all a blur and the car wasn't the priority! Now I have started to do my research family and friends have told us the package is fine and to just arrive at the alamo desk and either hope to get a free upgrade or try to bargain one (I am a planner so this doesn't sit well with me!). Is the insurance on this package sufficient? I have looked at upgrading online through travel city direct on a fake booking and the upgrade prices seem really expensive whereas when I price up the whole car to an intermediate suv (which i would now prefer to have as a minimum!) On alamo brits it seems more reasonable! (Which I am assuming has adequate insurance included) Does anyone know if you can cancel the car on the fly drive package with travel city direct? Do we take our chances and cross my fingers the day we arrive that we have some good luck or do we count our losses and book with alamo brits? Is there any way of getting an alamo booking ref from travel city direct and attempting to upgrade through them? Any help will be appreciated and please be kind car talk is not my speciality! Ha! Thanks Edited at 09:04 PM. |

Hi. Never upgrade at the desk, they will skin you alive. They also won't let you take out the current car you have without adding on extra insurance.
Basically you are uninsured. I would do a number of things Get a price off TCD for the car you want and the price to insure it Then look at a 3rd party supplier like Brits and see what they charge. If Brits or whoever is cheaper just don't collect your free car. You are right, firms like Brits are fully insured and ready to go.

As per Toms post, just don't pick up the TCD car. But don't tell TCD as they may then say you don't now have a package ( which allows you to just pay a deposit), so they may ask for full payment, or even cancel.
Many people di Flydrives from VH or TCD just to get the deposit scheme then pay up as they get nearer departure, they never take the car, arranging their own. Again as per Tom use someone like Alamo Brits, choose the car size you want and you will be fully insured. Andy at Discount Florida Car Hire is also very good and he will guide you through your needs. Great for folks who haven't hired in the US before. Andy posts on the car hire threads quite a lot, you should be able to find him. Hope this is of some use |
