Wow, absolutely appalling. Like many have already posted, we always search for our server, thank them and hand them the tip - we do that here, too.
Melvin, will you please let your friend know that we're disgusted by this behaviour, and that there is absolutely no reason or excuse for it. I hope you get time to show your friend this thread; and best wishes to her. |

That is awfull but it happens all the time. We very rarely tip (not because we don't agree with it but the service needs to amazing for us to tip, we especially object when the bill suggests amounts!) but when we tip we either add it to the card payment or hand it over to the server.

But in the US they don't get paid like they do here and the tip is needed. We tip both in the UK and US although I have not tipped in the UK if we've had bad service and do tip less in the UK. I like the fact they put the suggested amounts as it makes it easy to work out quickly.
I'm shocked someone stole the money but I have worried about leaving the money on the table and do generally try to find the waiter/waitress.

Not tipping is just as disgraceful imo. You are still taking money from the server, as longer as the service is not bad a tip is expected and earned, the amount of tip is dependant on how outstanding the service isn't not whether to tip at all.
But I'm sure being on the dibb you already know that |

when you folk say hand the tip to the server, i don't think they get all their individual tips is it not put in a pot and shared which i also think is wrong. as with in any job their is always slackers.
as for the people who toke the tip shame on them they not only stole someones hard earned tip they have literally stole from their family/friend who has left a tip for the service , really sickening that anyone could do that

It's sad to think that people can sink so low by taking the wages from those who work hard to earn it. People need to show more respect to those who work in the customer service industry.
