Also the type of role it is, they will not fill with someone that is able to conduct the full role of a Police Officer because they are too useful out on the streets. I have a disability but this job is perfect for me and that has been recognised. My disability was through an accident on duty, it does not restrict me from any role of this job. Therefore it is doubtful there is a P/t officer with a disability that could fill the role. I am not working out of the main county station so it would incur additional travelling expenses as there is no one that could do this in the area I work.
What I am trying to say is that it is doubtful there is anyone who would apply for the role who is a Police officer. Therefore it would have to be converted to a civilian post. I am trying to think of a solution for my report to them in which I can suggest a way forward.

I know zero about this situation, but with your current role being so specialised, and you're prepared to continue working it as a civilian, wouldn't the powers that be want to be snatching you up in a flash?

It sounds like it won't be that straightforward, but hope you can sort something out.

You could take flexible retirement where you take you full pension and return on reduced hours with mutual consent between you and your employer. Not sure how old you are but if you are retiring between 50 and 55 you would have to have a months' break due to the Protected Pension Age and would be subject to abatement (but then you would if you returned to work for the same employer anyway if these are the scheme rules). This is where your new pay and pension added together can't be more than your old salary,

Assuming I've read this right you are looking to suggest that going foreward the role is carried out by a civilian rather than a police officer. The job role and hours remain the same. Is this correct?

I've just spoken to my brother ( until he retired he was very high up in WMP) about this and said put the case forward that it is saving Police resources on the ground at a key time but it may also be viewed as an additional cost as the chances are they may just change someone's elses role. He said to check if there is any other instances where this may have happened and use that as an example

Before you make any decisions please check with your Federation and HMRC whether there are tax implications in returning to work as police staff in what may be materially the same role.

I am no expert in this, but I am aware this should be checked out.

Thank you, THis has happened elsewhere in the county where they changed Police to Police staff BUT they weren't a job share. It seems to be the Job share element that could potentially cause an issue.
They will need to fill the role as 1 person on 20hours per week could not cope with the volume of work we have.
It would be much cheaper for them I'd be on slightly less hours 18 or even 16 per week because Police staff do not get a paid lunch break.
It has been rumoured that when officers in our role ( there are 7 across the county) leave by retirement or another job they won't be replacing with Police Officers ….but this is only a rumour.

Thank you that is a very good point, I have checked with my Pension but will query with the Fed.
I don't think they'd be implications as others have moved from Police to Police staff with no implications on theirs BUT like you say worth checking.
I know we have to have at least a month off I'm planning 6-8 weeks.
