Thanks for everyone’s replies! I will just see what happens , what will be will be. If my pregnancy is progressing well by the time we have to pay our balance in July (and of course how things are with the virus) I think we will still go. We’ve been many times before so I wouldn’t feel I’m missing out. After all, I would rather be big heavy and uncomfortable in Disney than big heavy and uncomfortable at home!

(And worst case if we have to cancel we’ve only paid a deposit so far)

Just to clarify make sure your return dates are in any airlines limitations and that your fit to fly letter will also be valid as most have to be dated within 2 weeks of flying. No point in going if you cannot get back, so no trips longer than 14 days unless you get a new letter whilst on holiday.

I wouldn't risk it personally, but each to their own. I was on the dot of 28 weeks when we landed back home in the UK; I enjoyed that trip immensely, but wouldn't have traveled any later. My best advice is buy some very stretchy/expandable shoes as your feet will swell to ginourmous proportions on the plane!

You will have to buy specialist insurance as labour and birth is only covered to the 28th week of pregnancy. It costs around $13,000 for a normal delivery of a full term baby in Florida at the moment so don't travel without it! Day admission, antibiotics and a CT Scan came in at $11,000 for my husband 12 years ago (covered by insurance) so god knows what an emergency c-section and any treatment would be!

We've laughed this morning about how our now 4 yr old was less of a handful on that in utero trip than since
I had very easy pregnancies to be fair, no sickness. But sitting still was uncomfortable. But it just seems a waste to spend thousands on a holiday you can’t fully utilise plus the risk of being so far away in third trimester.

But there’s a reason we waited until said pregnancies were 9 and 6 before taking them state side, I agree foetuses are easier than toddlers 😂

With our first we waited until she was almost 3, (they are both October babies, and we go late August). With the second we were booked, travelling with friends, and our flights were already paid for, before we found out. So we had numerous reasons to "crack on with it". Whilst we certainly feared what might go wrong, actually it wasn't too different to a normal trip.

I ballooned at 32 weeks.

1 minute you'd hardly know I was pregnant, the next week, I was huge.
I was working in London at the time and found it so uncomfortable.

I had terrible heartburn, was out sick for weeks and ended up taking earlier than planned maternity leave.

I adore Disney but am not sure about the risk, especially with this covid going on.

On the other hand their maternity care could be better than Uk/Ireland with the current crisis.
I'd do my homework re maternity hospitals in florida before I even considered going.

Good luck and I hope all goes well with mum and baby!

Definitely not. My DD was born early at 30 weeks.

Thank you everyone for taking the time to respond.

I have checked the TandCs of my existing annual policy and we wouldn’t be covered as the dates are less than 12 weeks from due date.
Is there such a thing as specialist pregnancy travel insurance? Would it cover me even though I have an existing annual policy?

These are just ideas at this stage.

We are considering pushing it back by a year, we will wait to see next week if free dining is released and if it is, whether we could go in any of the dates

Just thinking of all the options so I can make an informed decision.

(Also balance not due until July so plenty of time for pregnancy to advance and to monitor the covid situation)

Hey there, yeah I travelled out at 28 weeks and flew back at 31 weeks. It was great tbh, I chilled when I needed to, drank plenty of water and loved people watching in peace while my hubby and the kids enjoyed the rides. I had more energy than them most days...and I looked great in a bikini 😂.

I’m sorry I can’t remember who I got travel insurance with but I did have to get extra cover in case the baby should arrive prematurely, so there defo is that kind of cover available. I already had AA insurance but they only covered me, so I’m very glad I double checked as I can only imagine the cost of caring for an early arrival in the US would’ve been crazy expensive!

I’d have no issues travelling at that stage again, as long as all’s well with the pregnancy. I did have to get a fit to fly letter signed the day before travel and it was emailed to the airline but we honestly never had any other issues or queries. I wasn’t huge so maybe I didn’t look so far on but I’d says it was one of our most chilled trips 😬...I really missed going on Star Tours though 😕

Oh yeah, I should add that I gave birth just before 36 weeks with my previous pregnancy but that didn’t put me off...I just went with how I felt and the advice of my midwife/doctor and I honestly would’ve cancelled/postponed last minute anyway if I’d felt really unhappy going. You’re right to play it be ear and see how you feel...you’ll know in yourself how things go and how you feel 🙂

And, like you said, if you can go then it’s defo much more fun being big and tired in the magical heat of Disney 😍. Oh, and Disney baby stuff is adorable so baby shopping is so much more fun!

As I said earlier, we got supplemental insurance via a broker. Rather than specifically cover the pregnancy and baby, it didn't exclude them in the T's and C's and the broker knew of cases where they'd paid out, so his expertise was very useful. That single person policy was about £70 in 2015, similar to our family policy through my work at the time.

If it were me today I'd be looking to push back a year, just because of all the unknowns with whether we will be allowed to travel or not, as much as the virus! Changing dates should be easy in this climate.

When we had a decision to make we had already parted with the best part of 3 grand, little of which we'd get back if we cancelled. That did give us a substantial nudge towards going as planned.
There were no scares, so most of the time you were just caught up in the moment, but worrying about what might happen did creep into those quiet moments where you stop and think to yourself. Checking in to come home certainly had an element of relief about it, but it was still a good holiday and whilst it's easy to say after the event, I'm glad we went !
