Megan's engagement ring
I see the duchess of Sussex has redesigned her beautiful engagement ring, having small diamonds put into the previously plain gold band. I have to say I don't get this (apart from the fact I actually think it's a bit tacky) is there no sentiment any more? I have been pondering this a while to be honest as my sister replaces her wedding ring whenever she sees something she prefers, as I said to her it's not your wedding ring then is it?
I know I do get very attached to things (cars for example) so maybe I'm out of step here. I don't think it's just an age thing as my daughter and niece agree with me (about the rings not the cars). |

Nope i am with u.
My husband chose my ring and i love it because of that. He brought me another engadgement ring a few years ago as i dropped alot of weight and it wAs too big. New ring isnt me. My dd helped but i prefer my first (cheaper/smaller/emotionally attached to ring... Im not keen on megan she seems so manipulative. I might be wrong but she seems like a diva |

I’m no Meghan fan but this doesn’t bother me. I’m not sentimental in any way shape or form and some people just aren’t. Doesn’t make her any less married or have any less fond memories of when they became engaged.
Jewellery is so personal that if she felt it needed a little more for her to wear it comfortable and often then she had every right to sort it. Same with your sister, she wears a ring she likes when she likes it. I think Kate’s ring which is Diana’s old one is awful and doesn’t suit her at all but she has very carefully worn it for a limited number of occasions when it’s called for as it seems very unpractical for day to day wear. She’d be lynched if she attempted to do anything with the shape/design though! |

Yes, I dropped a heavy item on my hand and squashed my fingers and my wedding ring. I had to have said ring cut off. Dh offered to buy me another one. Nooo, It's the first time in 30yrs I have removed it. It is only a very inexpensive one, I don't actually think it is all gold but I would never part with it. So I agree, I wonder how Harry feels about it?

I think the engagement ring has been altered to fit better with Meghans new eternity ring.
I agree about not replacing some things though. I lost my engagement ring. It wasn’t particularly expensive but I felt I could not replace it. Husband bought me an eternity ring instead. |

I dont think it should be changed unless it gets lost, I think that she will break his heart and divorce him sooner rather than later.

When my fingers got too fat to wear my engagement ring DH bought me an eternity ring. I don’t think I could have my engagement ring made into something else. Like others on here I am too sentimental.

I don't have a massive problem with altering an existing ring, its still the same ring. Wouldn't do it myself but if she didn't like it then it's important she does if she has to wear it every day.
However I would never go out and buy a new ring all together- its not your engagment/wedding ring then! |

I agree. I could never change my engagement ring. When we got engaged, some 20 odd years ago now, we had just bought a house so my ring wasn’t expensive but is a beautiful, simple design. I love it because of the sentiment behind it and the fact that dh chose it for me. Many times he has offered to buy me a bigger diamond etc but then it wouldn’t be my engagement ring anymore.

I don't get sentimental about "stuff", perhaps she is the same.
Once given, the ring was hers to do with as she wished, she wished to change it a little, she still wears it. I don't wear mine, I find rings restrict blood flow or fall off anyhow. My MIL was apoplectic when she saw I do not wear my engagement or wedding ring. It is a thing, and has no bearing whatsoever on the state of our lovely marriage. |
