😂 we have a 6 hr wait at Heathrow between our flight from Miami landing and our connection to Manchester
... not sure what we're going to do to fill the time! Am sure I have read somewhere that you can request your bags but don't quote me on that!

Ask for them only to go to LHR as you need them there.
We deliberately booked our next leg LHR -
EDI for the next day to give the excuse a bit more credence. I'll cry if MIA check them right through!

We have done this on several occasions, albeit different routes. We just ask for the bags to be ticketed to the first airport and collect them there. We've had the occasional eye roll but have never been refused.

Short checking of bags is not allowed on BA as a policy, except when a connection involves an overnight or a change of airports. This is to try and prevent people using it to get cheaper tickets, and check in staff can now get in considerable trouble for allowing it outside the policy.

Of course, it’s possible that a compliant check-in agent may bend/break the rules and do it, but don’t count on it. Of course, if you don’t board the flight to MAN, your bags will be offloaded at LHR, but it might take a while to retrieve them (and that would likely be at T5, rather than T3 where you will arrive from MIA).

Assume you mean TPA-LGW//LHR-MAN, but yes, you will get your bags back at LGW.
