Is Disney going back on transport?
WDW News today had an article that Walt Disney travel company had stopped having the transport add on package at a short time after adding it.
Question is, are WDW going to have a new transport option? Have they suddenly realised how much this effects people I wonder?

The rumour is they’re reintroducing the Minnie vans so will corner the market with their own offering.

Last time they were available I think a trip to MCO was $150... Give that a miss I think.

I doubt it, by ending the service they have cut down the wages bill by terminating the employment of drivers and admin staff. They will also reduce their stock of assets by the additional number of busses and computers that will no longer be required.

I don't think so?
Disney already introduced a new transport option about 2 months ago, that Americans could book at additional cost. So they already had a new transport option. It looks like they've hit a problem with providing that transport so they've stopped bookings for now. BTW, again Disney took away a free service (Magical Express) and then introduced a different replacement service that cost extra. Just like they did with Fastpass+/Genie+. More money for Disney!

My understanding is that these transport options the DME was run under contract by Mears, they wouldn’t be responsible for staffing and costs, that would be Mears.
Yes, they saved money by not contracting the service at all, but what effect is this having on their publicity

Yes, Disney contracted Mears to provide the transport. Mears did all the work, provided the staff, bought & drove the buses, manned the computers, etc. Disney just paid them to do that.
When Disney ended that contract then Mears repurposed some of that existing equipment and staff to provide their Mears Connect service. As you say, Disney saved some money by not contracting Mears any more. Then they decided to provide their own service and charge extra for it (because... Disney). Now, surprisingly, they've stopped it. Perhaps there was some legal issue?
