My migraines were hormonal they stopped for a bit when I was pregnant, and now I’m post menopause I almost never have them.
Imigran was a life saver for me, nothing else (paracetamol, ibuprofen, Migraleve, Co-codamol) ever came close to touching it. It’s more than ‘just a headache’. It would make me vomit, I’d lose vision on the right hand side and often lose the ability to speak coherently. Scary. I’ve still got a ‘just in case’ stack of Sumatriptan!

My initial thought is if you don’t know the difference it is likely just a headache as migraines can be very debilitating. I would get your eyes checked as a starting point and then chat to the gp.

As a migraine sufferer myself I don’t have anything further to add that others have posted.
But I would advise to take into consideration your pillow, how you sleep and if it could be neck related, I often get bad headaches different from migraine as I have a bad neck and get trapped nerves in my neck, this hot weather doesn’t help either! |

Lots of helpful advice, today I have been feeling really sick and ended up with Ibuprofen, have eaten very little and went for a sleep.
The pillow thing is very interesting, as I wake up at night and sometimes swap pillows, but that will be trial and error to find out if that is the cause. I do occasionally get "auras" which can be quite intense, but they only happen maybe once every 3/4 months (if that). Hoping that a good nights sleep will get me back on track. If not I will give the GP a call but TBH I am so reluctant to phone them with such vague symptoms . |

For me it’s a REALLY bad headache that paracetamol or ibuprofen won’t touch. I can also feel nauseous.
Because I don’t get any other associated symptoms it took me a long time to realise that I was suffering with migraines. Sumatriptan for me too, totally agree it’s an absolute game changer 👍🏻 Edited at 07:33 PM. |

I have been diagnosed with chronic migraine , never had a migraine let alone a headache until Menopause but gp sort of laughed this off , over the 10 years it’s got steadily worse , debilitating
USA exedrin was the only thing that worked bar sumatriptan , I Started Botox end of last year but and so far into my third cycle but was not seeing much relief I then got a locum that had to do a prescription review and said definitely can be menopause related so put me on her patches , started this 3 weeks ago along with the 3rd round of Botox and seeing some relief at last but no idea if it is the Botox or hrt, maybe both

Just double checked my tablets, I found that Niratriptan works better for me so that’’s what my GP prescribes.
Sometimes I don’t know I am getting a migraine but when I notice it is getting progressively worse and I am feeling sick I know. Then the challenge is to get a tablet down without being sick. Nibbling dry biscuits in between taking the tablet seems to enable me to swallow. I am menopausal now so I am a bit scared that my GP may stop prescribing the pills because it says in the instruction sheet that they shouldn’t be taken post menopause because it is higher risk. The number of migraines are meant to go down after menopause so l hopefully I will need to take them less. |

This was similar to my experience. Every now and then (usually when too tired/too long without food/too long without drink/too hot, or combo of these things), I'd get killer headaches with light sensitivity and nausea. However, despite knowing all the symptoms of migraines, I assumed mine weren't as paracetamol and ibuprofen plus sleep knocked them on the head. Something "clicked" a couple of years back and I realised they were in fact migraines. Thankfully, they're still manageable with OTC meds and rest for me.
Hope you get something sorted OP
