If a tour operator cancels a holiday..

Sorry to the moderators as this isn't Disney, but I was both not sure where to post this and I know this will get most views from the clever people out there.

On Tuesday 3 of us were meant to go on a mini cruise with P&O Cruises to Guernsey. Today, 5 days before sailing, they cancelled the cruise because the ship is still in dry dock in Germany. All that i was offered was my money back and a 20% credit of future cruises...

Obviously i am out of pocket more than that... We had to have Covid Test, Parking, Insurance (which was really expensive for my 78 year old Mum) and cattery cancellation fees.

Am i entitled to anything extra from P&O other than what they have offered or do i have to claim on Insurance and in effect claim the cost of the all the above (and insurance costs) from them

Thanks in advance and sorry for posting here.

Personally I think you should speak to your insurers.

Insurers as Cruise line is not responsible for your additional costs, fairly sure that your "contract" with them is for them to provide you with your Cruise & that's about it.
Covid test? Over 5 days before? Sorry but I can't think of one test that would be valid for that length of time I know the likes of Randox, you got your money back if cancelled more than 24 hrs before. I've also cancelled car parks & been given vouchers. All a pain through no fault of your own though!

To travel on a cruise you need to submit a lateral flow test 24 hours before and provide a certificate. Although I’d planned to the test on Monday I’ve already bought the tests and had them delivered…

Insurance Company said they won’t cover the actual cost of the insurance, which I get, but for a 78 year old that was expensive.
As it was a requirement of travel then P&O will have to pay for that.

Sparky I'm not so sure, I've googled & near enough every cruise line only mentions the cost of the cruise & in P&O's case plus 25%. Being cynical what I think will happen is that your Insurers will tell you that P&O are responsible & P&O will tell you it's the Insurers (& that they've fulfilled their part with refund & FCC) Hope I'm wrong though

You never your premium back when you claim on insurance.

The cruise company compensated you for the cruise, thats all they have to do. The cruise company will only refund money actually paid to them. Everything else you paid for is nothing to do with them so you claim on insurance.

Never book with P&O. Terrible company after what they did to their staff this year. But they refunded you the cruise and even gave 20% goodwill. Technically they've gone above and beyond for you. The rest isn't their problem. You'll have to claim on insurance and hope they pay out.

Thank you all - the 20% goodwill isn't really goodwill as its a credit against a future cruise... which will never happen with them.

Thanks all for taking the time to reply :-)

At least its only 55 days until Disney !

Apologies in advance for being pedantic or if I’ve missed something… P&O Cruises haven’t done anything to their staff have they? P&O ferries on the other hand, a completely separate company, well their owners are despicable and corrupt!

You've got the wrong P&O.

P&O Cruises have no connection to the company called P&O Ferries.
