Just came across this :

Hopefully this means that others will follow suit

Yes I share your concerns.
I would definitely like to see safety measures put in place.
Maybe something like ...
limited numbers at counter at one time, clean plate each time, no unaccompanied children or children serving themselves, masks while in queue, handsanitiser and disposable gloves to be worn and disposed of each time you enter/exit queue, serving utensils changed regularly etc.
I am sure they could introduce things to make it safe.

Yup totally agree. Boma one of our fav's but all that walking too and from tables would be of concern too, perhaps to start with half the number of tables in there & arrowed walk round. Hopefully by the time we decide to go again all this will be a distant memory

They may open up with it either being CM served from behind the counter, or already plated portions so you're not touching anything else.

I'll be interested to see if any of the currently running family style switch back to buffet (e.g. Crystal Palace) or if they'll keep the new menu.

They had a buffet on the ship. It was served by the staff and you were given a designated section of the buffet that you had to use.

It felt as safe as it could. And much safer than the free for all at the Holiday inn breakfast which had no covid Guidelines in place at all.

The Buffets that are now back at Disneyland in California are served by a server, you tell them what you want and how much and they put it on the plate for you. I assume they will do the same at WDW.
