Here now & no availability for MK & HS

We’re all pretty scunnered this time with Disney. Maybe partly our fault for not planning more thoroughly but we haven’t done anything different to all our previous visits. We aren’t regimented with our planning but decide what we all feel like doing on the day and what the weather is. We plan to hit all the parks early on our first days (jet lag helps!) and then early evenings the second week.
We planned to go to a park last night and there was none available. MK and HS are showing zero availability until 18th June! Somehow in the midst of checking and rechecking I snagged a MK booking for tomorrow but it’s kind of the final straw for us. We didn’t want to use Genie+ (5 of us and the extra expensive) and even though we’ve been at all the parks before rope drop (offsite guests) we didn’t manage to do very much at all - EPCOT was the exception. HS we did 3 rides in 2+ hrs (Slinky Dog, TS Mania and RR Coaster). T of T was down after that and the other rides were too long to queue anymore. Much as we enjoyed the rides we did, we just felt like the enjoyment and magic had gone. 😥
Anyway, moral of story is book parks well ahead of time and then change/cancel the park if you change your mind.

Did you not book all your park days before you went?

There have been plenty of threads on here the last few months saying no availability or just one park available. Most of our holiday the only park still available was Epcot.

If you book any park that's available just now then after 2 you can hop to the one you actually wanted to go to.

Hopefully you get to do all the things you want to before it's home time.

The availability restriction only applies up til 2pm so you can go to any park in the evening.

Yes, but they still need a park reservation and enter into a park before being able to hop. You can't just go to any park after 2pm.

Some days there have been no parks available at all.

Yes we found that when we went. We had booked ahead of time anyway but it made changing plans a pain. I was always happy enough to I book FP and dining reservations in advance knowing they could be changed but park reservations are clearly a must now and I don’t really like not having scope to change plans.

Its silly all this reservation stuff. We were there in April. For me, if I book a 14 day park tickets, I should be able to go to ANY park during the 14 days without having to tell them first.
If the park hits capacity before I get there then fair enough, but until that point they should be giving people freedom. Was nothing wrong with the way it worked before...

Don't you still have to have made a reservation if it's your first park of the day...

I don't love the reservation system much myself. It bothered me when we were there in April that if we wanted to change parks there was pretty much nothing left to change to. However I do think it's been well enough advertised that you should book park days at least weeks in advance.

Makes no sense to me really. They say it's to manage numbers, staffing etc. But that doesn't take into account the people who have hopped to a park, and not been included in the initial reservations.

I have booked mine up to February next year. May not be perfect as yet but better to have something booked than be caught out.
