Novice house renovators - finally the garden!

Today we started on the main change to the garden that we wanted to make - a small patio/wide path/steps outside our new, well year old kitchen diner! This is what it looked like last summer - base of the old woodstore, gravel patch where the gas bottles stood and weeds!

We won't be using it to sit on as it is nearly always in the shade but it will be so nice to just step out of the kitchen not clamber or have to go round through the conservatory as well as finally get the protective tape off the sills!

It was supposed to have been done back in April but the chap cancelled 10 days out so we had to find someone else. It is going to cost us a bit more but he has turned up today and made a brilliant start.

We chose our garden furniture which arrived a couple of months ago. It is on the existing bit of patio and we are very pleased with it, and had lots of use already! Only issue is the cover. The correct size was on back order for something like 18 weeks so they sent a bigger one which looks untidy but at least keeps it clean and dry!

Anyway the chap worked really hard today and here is what he has achieved! Can't believe how much soil he moved - he anticipates it is a 6-7 day job! Will post more tomorrow

Thanks, here’s what it looks like today!

Hopefully won’t be too bad a match once the old part is repointed and cleaned and the new bit weathers! These pics are the existing bit!

Going to look really good. It just goes to show how much hard work and maintenance is needed to keep patio slabs in good order and the joints well maintained.

I am currently re pointing a big section of mine. What a boring job!

We hope so, they are reconstituted stuff, which on the main part is wearing away a bit but we just couldn’t afford to replace whole lot. We considered decking over entire thing but didn’t really suit the style of the garden!

Nice job in the sun! Dh is still toying with asking the chap to do it but reckon it’s at least a 2-3 day job which with his rates will heading towards £1000!

Todays instalment

He would have done more but ran out of sand!

He was also telling me about the pointing stuff - sounds amazing stuff -just pour it on and brush off. It is some kind of resin, and apparently very easy to use so will be watching carefully to do the original patio😉

Just thinking this time next week I’ll have a patio😁

Sounds like he is using Silka for the joints.
