Have 2022 point requirements massively increased?

I have just logged on to start making my booking but the point requirements for next year seem to have massively increased from when I first calculated what was needed at the end of last year. A six night stay in a 2 bed BCV is now 414 points. Or did I just work it out wrong in the first place?

TBH it could be both! I have read that "they" have been at it again! Conversely our stay this year is 2 points more than 2022 for exact same days

OP quite possibly the requirement has increased for your stay. There is another thread here on The Dibb about the 2022 points chart “inflation”. There’s also a very long thread on one of the American boards on the subject. It is a very complicated subject but it appears that the points charts may have been inflated for some dates without sufficient corresponding decreases, across all resorts, with attendant effect on breakage etc. There are anecdotal suggestions from US members who have discussed this (at length) with DVC hierarchy that the 2022 points charts for the latter half of the 2022 will be reissued to take account of “feedback” received…I’m not holding my breath!

My six night stay at BCV has increased from 296 to 414 points and my five night stay at BLT has increased from 266 to 279 points.

I think I will have to book 2 studios at BCV instead of a 2 bed as I can't make the points stretch with the 50% borrowing limit

Sorry but you might have worked it out wrong in the first place, to vary by over 100-points for a 6-night stay might mean you used the dates in Magic/Fantasy Season from a points chart when Easter (Premier Season) was earlier than Easter in 2022.

As you're probably arriving on your flight late afternoon or even early evening then consider just booking into a cheaper resort or hotel room for the first night and then check into a 2-bed at BCV for 5-nights early the next morning, so anytime from 6.00 am. Room won't be ready but you'll have Stormalong to enjoy after breakfast and one night less could save 68-points.

Good suggestion and I had considered it but with the 50% borrowing rule we would still be about 12 points light. We will actually be arriving from a 3 night stay at RPR which I could have increased to 4, but although we would have preferred to be altogether in a 2 bed, 2 studios are ok too and I have now started walking them.

The rumour is they are reducing the points chart after pushback from members so you may see it come down again.

I think its the entire season that Easter is in has had the points inflated.

Which dates are you looking at? In 2022 there is another point reallocation between seasons, that is more likely the cause of the increase.
If you're going in the Autumn, that is the certainly it.
There is a bit of point inflation due to some creative accounting, but that is under 1% at most resorts, it shouldn't make a difference more than one or maybe 2 points for your whole stay.
