Buying resale - use year
I've pretty much convinced myself that I want to buy DVC, through resale. I've spent a few months thinking about how we would use the points/how many we need etc. We tend to holiday in September, so I was planning on an August or September use year.
Being quite specific in what I want, I've so far not seen it come up for sale, but I'm not really in a rush. However, I have now seen just what I'm looking for with a June use year. I feel like that would work fine with when we book holidays, we are planners and not last minute holidayers. For anyone who has bought through resale, did you hold out for exactly what you had in mind, or were you flexible?

Hiya
We are also in the 'contemplation' stage and asked the same question Most replies said the use year should be between 3 and 6 months BEFORE you usually travel which gives you enough time to book your points should you need to cancel Im sure somebody with more knowledge than me wil be along to explain more thoroughly |

We travel in July and our guide at the time recommended a July use year , which works out the 6 month between travel and use year

It's not the perfect month to have but June use year is still absolutely fine for Sept. trips. Plenty of time to reschedule trips if you need to before your Jan 31st banking deadline.

I personally wouldn’t bother too much about use year first contract and just get the best contract.
We always travelled summer, now it’s Xmas as well, and we had booked Easter this year before it fell through. When we retire I intend to go Feb/ March. By pure luck it’s transpired the Feb use year was pretty decent but it’s never a deal breaker for the right contract- biggest consideration for me when I got my first one was that the requisite number of points would be on it for when I had my first trip planned. Adding on 3 times I always bought Feb use year then and I’d recommend keeping add ons to the same UY as the first contract as it makes life easier.

Always holiday in Sept/Oct & have a Jun UY & have had no issues. You really just need the current points to be available for your normal travel time TBH
