Mobile Birthday dinner at the Yachtsman?

Hi,

Am going to book the Yachtsman for ds's birthday meal (he's a steak lover ) and am wondering about timings, what to do afterwards etc. Maybe go to Epcot for illuminations?
Does anyone have any advice, experience or suggestions? It's our first stay on site and with the DDP.
Thanks in advance.

We ate there last year, our reservation was for 6.30 and I’d say this worked out great, we ate our food at a leisurely pace giving us enough time to get into Epcot.

We usually stay at Y&BC so eat there most trips (it's lovely) - we usually walk around Crescent lake afterwards along the Boardwalk and back, stopping for a drink at Abracadabar, and a look in the shop, Wyland Gallery etc. There's a great atmosphere there at night and it's a lovely round walk.
There's also a great lounge bar next to Yachtsman and a pool bar at Hurricane Hanna's, and 2 shops in Y&BC if you just wanted to potter round the resort - sit in the rocking chairs outside and enjoy doing nothing, pick a pearl, or watch a movie on the beach.

I’d recommend allowing 2 hours for dinner, always err on the side of caution... especially if you want to watch illuminations.

You get a very good view of (the higher) fireworks in Illuminations from the pier - leading to the boat dock at YC.

I think we might skip the fireworks and have a later dinner, followed by a stroll as suggested by MrsBC
Not sure about the Mickey birthday cake, he isn't really a cake lover. Strange boy!

It is nice to chill out and enjoy the resort area - you could hire a Surrey bike at the Boardwalk

I’d book for 6.30 then you can hedge your bets easily. Epcot and DHS will still have good options when you’re done or the Boardwalk will be great. That said. After 11 trips to WDW and years of reading rave reviews about Yachtsman we finally ate there this year. Meh. It was fine. But it wasn’t anything like the hype. The service was actually sub par and the steak was not cooked how any of us ordered it. It all might have been fine if we’d ordered each other’s. But we didn’t. I was majorly underwhelmed and even though we were on free dining I resented the 20% tip given we could have spent that on an actual meal and eaten better elsewhere.
