We had variable experiences of EMH this year. I think you still need to plan it to a certain extent and aim to FP the popular rides and do the less popular ones during EMH. Our problem with Epcot was that we didn’t have any FP as we were going to another park in the evening so we planned to do as much as possible in EMH. Test Track was down which had an impact on the Soarin’ queue.
At AK we used it really just to do the safari without a FP as by the time we’d done that there wasn’t much time for anything else. I still considered it worth it though and would do that again.
We hadn’t really used EMH much in the past but now that I have I’ll know better how to manage it.

Regarding MK on an EMH day, if the park opened at 08:00 would BOG still open an hour earlier at 07:00 in this case, or does it always open at 08:00 regardless?

Go to MK your first day . If you like getting up early then do EMH , if you don't then with the new fastpass system you honestly don't have to . It works so well . We fastpassed everything as a party of 4 and never queued .
If you are going in the morning book your three fastpasses early 9-10 ( roughly ) we then arrived between 9-10 for our first fastpass
carried straight on to our second , sometimes altered our third and brought it forward .
As soon as you touch in at 11am for 3rd fastpass ( 9-10 , 10-11, 11-12 ) start searching for your next pass on the app , keep on refreshing until you get the time and ride that you want .
Honestly it does work , there were 90 min queues for popular rides and we got fastpass for 10-15 mins time .
This was for July August this year so not quiet
We even did 4 park challenge using this method ( 3 rides per park ) and did FOP , Everest , dinosaur , star tours , tot , r&r , soarin, test track , mission space , big thunder mountain, space mountain and pirates ( could not get splash ) .
I honestly Looked at people in the queues and wonder why they were not doing the same . I guess it woukd not work if they were thoughb🤔

Were you still able to get fast passes for popular rides early and late afternoon?
