I’m panicking like mad now!
We fly to Mauritius in January via Dubai. Got an email from Virgin Holidays about the new laws on prescription meds. DH has some but nothing on the banned list. Me, on the other hand has several on the to be declared list not banned. I have a chronic back issue that when it goes is agony. I’m going to be travelling without my major emergency pain relief but am horrified at the hassle of trying to take my meds. It’s all so confusing. I spoke to Virgin today about maybe changing routes but it can’t be done without being horrendously expensive. The recommended that I called the Embassy in London as they would clarify things as I am a transit passenger only.
I was looking forward to my holiday but I’m now dreading the flights.

It’s very confusing. I am sure I read if you are transiting it’s different. But if in doubt then deffo check . We only have blood pressure and indigestion meds so nothing with any codeine or similar in them.

There is still no consistent advice. The foreign office page says everyone needs to fill in the form but they are still checking ( so basically nobody’s updated their web page in 3 weeks). The UAE health site has that message that it’s for meds on the controlled list, is optional and does not apply if the drugs aren’t on the controlled list.
And Emirates and Virgin websites give a mix of all the above.

It’s very poor really. But I’m going with the UAE site. So it could be a very short stay or a very long one if I get it wrong

We were there last week. Before we left DH filled the form in for his meds. They weren't on the banned list but info was mixed so we thought best to fill in. We didn't hear anything before we left.
Entered Dubai no questions asked.
While we were there, received notification his application was rejected! As you can imagine, we were slightly nervous!
Anyway, left with no questions asked!
Not really sure what would do next time we travelled to be fair!
DH was carrying a copy of his prescription and his original diagnosis letter. Not sure whether I would fill the form in again unless the advice changed!

Just spoken to the medical legal team at the Dubai Embassy. It’s not a problem with any medication if transiting through airport and not staying in the country. You need a copy of your prescription, a letter from GP stating what medications you are on and why. All meds must be in original packaging and packed in your checked luggage except what you require for the flight.
Spoke to my GP yesterday and she’s happy to provide letter.
Phew. I can go on holiday!

We arrived yesterday. We were through immigration in 10 minutes. The officer didn’t ask us any questions at all. We were asked to put our cases through for extra screening as we exited the arrivals hall but that took less than 5 minutes and we were sent on our way.

We had GP letters and the prescriptions with us if asked but we didn’t submit the online form as the UAE website says it’s not required if the drugs are not on the controlled list ( as per the pic I posted). We checked that list right up until we left the house.
