Mobile Which Insurance is needed?

Hi all, I have found what I think is a good hire Car deal with Hertz. It says it includes Loss Damage Waiver, total sales tax and Liability Insurnace Supplement. Is this sufficient? Or do we need any further insurance? Thanks

The two Insurances you have listed are the essentials so it sounds fine. Also the sales tax and airport user fee mounts up so it's always good to have them included in the quote thus no nasty surprises.

Who is the third party supplier of the Hertz car or is it direct?

I looked direct. It’s a price of £247 for a midsize SUV for 9 days. It’s about £100 cheaper than any other quotes I’ve had- does it sound like a good deal? And are Hertz okay to use?

I do much longer rentals than this but the price sounds ok. Hertz are a good company. I will only use Alamo, Avis and Hertz. The rest I feel are poor.

Try Netflights, Virgin Atlantic as they do car hire, Andy at discountfloridacarhire and Alamo Brits for prices before you commit.

I remember the various insurances confusing the hell out of me when I tried to research things. One I definitely checked on, though, was the dreaded excess insurance, i.e. if there's an excess on the car, they want you to pay for insurance to cover that excess amount, should you damage the car. Of course they try to scare you into paying $xx a day because you won't want to pay the $1000 excess. But $xx a day adds up and can be a few hundred.

I'm afraid I'm none the wiser on the insurances mentioned by the OP (is one of these the same thing? Why do the different companies all call their fees different things?), but thought I'd post something in case others can learn.

In the end, I went with an Avis deal where there was no excess, and so no excess insurance!

99% of car hire done from the UK has a zero excess but as you say you need to check. All the ones I mention have zero included.
It's the CDW or LDW as it's sometimes called is the key to no excess.
Americans who use their credit card benefits or own Insurance to hire are the ones who get stung if things go wrong.

SLI, LIS or EP as it's again sometimes called that is essential. That gives you a million dollars coverage for third party claims in an accident.

Hi Tom,
I am looking to hire Ford Fusion or similar as they say, by booking with Avis via Avios.com so I can mix and match my Avios and cash. It says included are unlimited mileage...CDW..Theft Protection, and all the usual airport taxes and fees, would this be the same as SLI or not ?

Probably, but if it's not listed I would query it. It is an absolute essential as it covers damage to other vehicles, roadside furniture you may trash and also injuries to third parties.
Without it you will be bankrupt!

Hi Tom,
Many thanks for the heads up...the result was as follows
If I hire the car with Avis via Avios.com SLI/ALI is NOT included but it can be purchased locally at MCO, as no cost was forthcoming from Avios, I really wonder how much you would end up paying.
If I hire the car with Avis via my BA Exec Club A/c all the insurances are included in the price, plus I can enter my preferred A/c No. at the time of booking.
Once again, many thanks.
