Car hire prices... Summer 2019.

For our last trip I booked Alamo through Virgin.

We travelled in July 2018 (school holidays) to MCO and I booked the car hire in May 2018 as this was a bit of a 'last minute' trip for us.

We paid approx. £31 a day for a standard SUV.

Looking at prices for 2019 we have similar dates booked but for a couple of extra nights and if I go by last years figures, I should be looking at around £600 give or take. The closest I can get to this is £664, again through Virgin.

Any thoughts? If I go by my last booking it looks like I need to be patient and wait until nearer the time to book?

Thanks in advance.

Hi. I don't do patience!
I lock in a price I can live with as soon as I can but I always use a supplier I can cancel with and no penalty imposed.
Virgin are easy to cancel with albeit you have to ring up and can't do it online. I can live with that.

Hmmmm not a huge fan of patience myself!

I halfheartedly started to read Virgins cancellation T&C's but kind of lost interest as I'm not overly happy with £664, it just seems to be the best of a bad bunch at the moment.

Would love to book with DFCH but their price is over £1k at the moment

Thanks for your advice.

Virgins T & Cs are all over the place but I have a link saved where it clearly shows that cancellation is free. However it's on my PC at home and I'm out here now.

I cancelled a May 19 booking with them just over a week ago, no issues at all.
I then rebooked with Andy.
Since then I have got Andy to change my booking as his prices dropped and he refunded me over £30! Win win.

Win win indeed!

I'll have a good look over the weekend and make some decisions!

Thanks again.

About a month ago, DFCH’s prices for Alamo were lower than Virgin for July, so I booked with them.
A Full Size SUV for £740 for 15 nights.
Suddenly their prices literally doubled, and it’s now over £1500! 😳

Booking a rental car is not a one off job. As Tom says book it when you see a price that you are happy with and then keep going back to see if it has come down. I had to amend my Alamo Brits booking 3 times last this year.

I’ve paid £662 for 21 nights standards SUV for the first 3 weeks in July - also with virgin. Only a few pounds dearer than this year and as always virgin are the cheapest I can find for July.

Hmmm, well my price of £664 is for 18 nights... but from the16th July...
I again started to check Virgins T&C’s earlier re their cancellation policy but lost the plot half way through as a lot of it seemed to apply to holidays...

Thanks for your message.
