front of line pass -universal

can anyone remind me how much the FOL pass at universal costs on top of the ticket price and if you can buy 1 pass to cover both parks in one day?
Also do you think it is worth paying the extra in middle two weeks of July?

thanks in advance

As far as I can remember, the cost depends on when you are going - off peak periods are much cheaper than peak periods.

Sorry, can't help you about July - never been in July.

Last August it cost us just over £100 for five of us. I considered this money well spent as it covered by parks. We were able to get on most of the rides, some like Spiderman were 75 min wait and we just went straight on. Had we not had the passes I would never have stood for 75 mins for a ride, I know rides like Spiderman are good, but not that good.

I would say middle of July is just as busy so I would budget for the passes, you won't regret it.

We were there in July last year and the queues for some of the rides were quite long.

We were staying in the Hard Rock Hotel, so had the FOTL access that is afforded to all guests of the Universal on-site hotels.

I'm not sure how much the FOTL passes you have to buy cost, but I think they are only valid once per ride, whereas if you stay at an on-site hotel you can go to the FOTL as many times as you wanted. This proved great as my daughter loved The Cat in the Hat ride and we must have gone on it 10 to 15 times in a row whereas others were queueing for a good 15-20 minutes. The queues for the 'big' rides, such as Hulk, were considerably longer.

I would strongly recommend you stay in one of the Universal hotels, especially if you are a family of 4, even if for only 1 night. You can turn up early in the morning of the night you are staying and get your keys immediately which will give you a full day with FOTL access in one park. You then get to enjoy the short walk (or boat) back to your hotel or can enjoy Citywalk etc and then the following day you retain your keys for FOTL access in the other park.

(I'd personally stay for more nights, but one night will do the job for you)

we were there in July and August last year, and when we went to IOA we never did the passes but regretted it as we ended up queing for anything up to an hour at peak times on the headliner rides such as Spiderman and this was hard work with the kids

However later in the day late afternoon , the queues did die down a bit and was not so bad

when we went to Universal we opted for the passes and this was a much more enjoyable day although it was not as busy as IOA, we walked straight onto every ride,

Whilst the FOTL passes are only valid for 1 entry, they never bothered crossing them off on the back of the passes and we were able to return on more than one occassion

Whilst we were buying our passes, we did get asked if we would consider joining a tour group for around 3 hours in the morning with someone who was being trained, basically following them to some of the attractions, and listening to their pitch

They would have then given us front of the line passes for the remainder of the day to use as we wished for free

We declined as we did not think it would be suitable with the kids, but may be an option for others and worth asking about at customer services

Absolutely agree with this, especially at peak times and you get 2 days FOTL access for the whole family.

Are the differences in the tickets listed just the days they are valid on

as there seems to be quite a difference in the prices

With the price of the Express passes as it is, it makes staying in a Universal a complete no-brainer, doesn't it, if you're considering buying the Express passes?

If you have other accommodation, be it hotel or a villa, booked for the duration of your holiday just take an overnight bag with you, leaving everything else at your main 'residence'.
