For older dibbers, a sad reminder.

I was a teenager, I remember feeling such horror . I'll never forget those innocent little children and everyone that perished on that terrible day, and the poor families that had to live the rest of their lives without them.

I was twelve years old and this tragedy will be with me forever.

In later life I worked with a woman whose husband came from there, He and his father were up at the school digging through silt with their bare hands looking for their sister/daughter.

RIP Michele and every other youngster whose life was stolen that day.

Hettie Williams a Teacher at the School died in August this year.

The Merthyr and Rhymney MP Gerald Jones, who attended the funeral, was taught by Hettie Williams at Phillipstown Primary School in New Tredegar.

David Davies, chairman of the Aberfan Memorial Charity, added: "The people of Aberfan will never forget our dear Hettie."

I remember it so very well. One of the 'boys' I used to catch the train with (we were all just starting our working lives) was a trainee reporter in Fleet Street & he was taken there that day as part of his experience. I remember seeing him two days after it happened & asked him how he was and he burst into tears & just walked away from me.
Breaks your bloody heart doesn't it - God Bless all those little ones & everyone involved in any way.

I’m from Chepstow and my uncle was working on building the Severn Bridge ( now old one); they took all the workers to help. So sad 😞

I remember the local church having collection for those affected. We also wrote letters to the village

So very sad, I was only young when it happened but it still haunts me! What a terrible waste of lives! And many of the children foresaw the events and drew pictures. 😢

I wasn’t born but have heard of it and it sounds totally horrifying. So very sad.

I saw the same pic this morning posted on FB, I was not born until 10 years after this tragic event and I had never heard of it.

After an hour or so this morning reading about it online, I'm now fully aware of this awful accident and the scale of it.

I was too, although my parents were avid news watchers this was the first news story I remember connecting with.
To six year old me I couldn't understand why they weren't safe in school
